The Gosslings is surprisingly good to drink neat, not an absolute top performer but absolutely top for what it aims to be. The test in Dark and Stormy was of course more than positive, that’s exactly what it was made for.

Not recommended for neat drinking, but perfect in my favorite drink, Dark ‘n’ Stormy. The nose is round and spicy with scents of molasses and vanilla. At the palate and during the medium long finish it’s spicy, round, warm and sweet with flavors of molasses, vanilla, clove and cinnamon.

I don't really like this place. Nice rum bar here in Oldenburg, but you can forget the rums :-( Much too sweet for a rum, chocolate and coffee stand out here. There are far better ones in this price category.

Always a pleasure, and not just as a blender. The price-performance ratio here is simply mega. I like the chocolaty, spicy taste and the full mouthfeel, which is usually only slightly pronounced in other rums with 40 revolutions.

Having a try at my older stuff again. This is from my cocktail reserve, and it shines in that role assuredly. Sipped pure I immediately get sweetness and prune, reminder of Christmas baking flavours. The sweetness and prune do mask the low ABV a bit, and it does not taste as thin as expected. I would rather call it a liquor, as of now. Very sweet. Good for Cocktails, I believe.

02.10.2016 - 03.10.2016 A great extended weekend with rum friends. This was a nice event and lots of space between the tables. Only problem was the level of English at some of the exhibitors. Here are the rums we tasted at the event itself, nothing truly unique but we had fun. This is the second half of the tastings. Notes Dark to very dark in colour. Nose Wood, light roasted, banana, light grass, spice, light chocolate. Palate Light, wood, roasted, light nutts, clove, light caramel, chocolate, cherry, light earthy notes. Finish Short to medium, wood, light roasted, light tobacco, cherry.

My first Goslings and Bermudas. Well I have to admit it is too sweet in the first place. You cannot expect much from this 3 year old blend. Nose was promising, but it felt quickly to average on palate. Anyway I didn’t even know there is a run producer in Bermudas.

This rum is probably used almost exclusively for the well-known Dark'n Stormy - but here's a neat tasting neat anyway. The color, as befits a Black Rum, is very dark mahogany. However, not from barrel extraction, but from caramel coloring (E150a). But to be fair, that's also noted on the bottle. The nose impression is very mild and spicy with barrel notes. The - admittedly low - 40% ABV is not noticeable. There's also a bit of caramel. On the palate, this spiciness/barrel aroma continues. The rum feels round and mild, even though the ABV becomes more noticeable when drinking. Only subtle sweetness and the fairly short finish ends on a medium bitterness note. Conclusion: I will continue to use it exclusively as a mixer. You can also drink it neat, but there are many better options.

The nose has all the darker notes that would be expected of a very dark rum. Lots of molasses, barrel and raisin. There's a lingering rubber smell in the background too. The taste follows with what would be expected from the nose. It's on the sweeter side but nothing too much. Big nots of licorice and clove keep things spicy. The finish is on the short end but whilst it lasts there is a pleasant sweet, oakyness that is rather mellow. Overall it's a good entry level rum. Nothing challenging but at the same time it could get lost in the crowd.

Very flat nose and very fleeting. Taste flat and with few clear tones. I like the "licorice" note that stays in the mouth aftertaste. For me, a rum that will be my future average and comparison rum with sweetness. PS Also not my favorite in a "Dark & Stormy."

Very enjoyable rum to be drunk on its own. Smell: Acidic, green fruits such as apple, lemon with sour taste and spices. Hints of wood on the far end of the spectrum. Taste is quite different. You can taste the raisins, plums with sweetness of a cocoa, chocolate and nougat caramel. Quite contradictive taste but very pleasant. Overall a good sipper and I am looking forward to try it in various drinks such as iconic Dark 'n Stormy. I will come back with update after using it in couple of drinks.

For me, not something to enjoy neat, way too dark, spicy and bitter on the finish. But it works really well in the signature drink "Dark 'n' Stormy". Just for the Rum Mule purpose my rating is "good", neat I'd rather give it 3.5. Cola takes away some of the bitter note, still not in my favorites circle. Drinks: - Neat: 1/5 - Rum Cola: 3/5 - Rum Mule / Dark 'n' Stormy: 4.5/5

Maybe a good mixer, but I'm disappointed. Aroma: cola, nutmeg, toffee, lime zest. Taste: supermarket cola, weak coffee, spices, wood, pepper, cinnamon, a hint of nutmeg. Finish: caramel-coffee with alcohol bitterness.

Not for enjoying neat. But it shines in a Dark'n'Stormy. On the nose, a bit of Maggi, licorice, and green chili. On the palate, some molasses, coffee, and a mild spiciness that reminds me of pepperoni. A short finish with notes of Malu and tobacco.

Kind of one-dimensional. Good at what it does: having lots of flavor in the baking spice-vein. Flanked by woody, toasted mocha notes which are not far removed from the baking spice main note. The faintest hit of caramelized, burnt sugar. A little sweet but this is not a problem. However, there are sweetened rums with baking spice profile which are better at doing this in my opinion, Planteray Grand Anejo comes to mind. Worthy Park 109 is on a different level, taste-wise. This is not bad but also not impressive. Good if no other similar alternatives are available. If that's the case then this is fine. I'll probably not buy again, at least not unless there's no other dark or sweet baking spice rum available.

Quite an astringent nose, some burnt caramel and a bit of fake chemicals. Really treacle and molasses on the mouth with some bitterness, softening to raisin and caramel. The finish is short and brings more bitterness with barrel elements and baking spices. Not a great sipping rum and feels like one where the classic serve as a mixed drink suits it’s profile and lack of integration better

Although this is not a Great rum to drink neat or in a daiquiri for example, Black rums should not be dismissed as they have a place in Classic and Modern Tiki cocktails . And for a Black rum, this is just fine.

Nose: Immediate burnt sugar, some anise, citrusy, light fruitiness. Mouth: Not really any burn but a little warm, quite sweet, a little medicinal, anise appears, not very complex but not too bad. Finish: Keeps a nice little bit of warmth, flavour survives for a medium length. This is fairly alright. It's not very exciting and it is quite sweet due to the dosage, but when you get past that and the medicinal note, it does an OK job.

I will never drink this again. I know what the manufacturer think I should taste. I managed to get alcohol, plastic, oil and some mixed up stuff. Maybe in a cocktail, but you can find better ones there too.

Actually bought for dark and stormy, was surprised by the pure taste, had to smile that it tasted like Maggi. The nose was a mix of raisins, plums, Maggi and a slight note of coffee. The taste had notes of cinnamon, raisins, coffee and spices. Overall neat okay but perfect in the dark and stormy.
