People chasing raw, unaged Haitian cane spirit are the crowd here. Pour the glass and the nose more or less explodes — grass, sugarcane juice, olive brine and solvent. The palate stays green and vegetal with a salty, briny edge and a long smoky, tarry finish. Several find it the friendliest of the common clairins; a few say the alcohol runs hot and slightly medicinal.

A great rum! You can feel the initial strength of the alcohol, but the aromas that come after a while are well marked and you don't have to sniff the glass for too long. A firm, old-fashioned rum. On the palate, in addition to a fruity and vegetal component (where olives stand out), this aftertaste of solvents/esters never unpleasant stands out. Very long finish where in turn all the previously perceived flavors are felt. Predominant on the finish is a hint of peat/smoky always accompanied by solvents/esters.Unique!Velier nailed it! Long live Velier!

Tasted this pot still cane juice Clairin out in the Stockholm archipelago. The nose is rather weak, fruity and vegetal with scents of pears, ripe apples, olives and grass. At the palate it’s intense, fruity, vegetal and spicy with flavors of pears, olives, grass, pepper and salt. The finish is long, intense and salty.

For this last tasting from my bottle, like Vavala, I let it calm down in the glass for a long time. The nose is beautifully rounded, even a eucalyptus note appeared. A bit more volts is noticeable, but it's just as drinkable as its 49% colleague.

I haven't had a lot of time to add reviews lately and now I'm really far behind. This Clairin is one of the best ones I've had so far! The nose basically explodes as soon as you pour the glass. Fruits, herbs, grass and sugarcane are there pretty much instantly closely followed by spices. The palate is warm and fruity with cinnamon, grass, herbs and sugarcane followed by light licorice. The finish is medium to long with herbs, grass, apples and cinnamon. Price to quality is very good.

The nose is strong and reminds me of other Haitian rums I've tried. It's fixating, with notes of sugarcane, olive and a vinegary pickle. The palate is more vegetal than the nose and has a good amount of spice mixing with olive and some engine oil. Very dark and bitter finish but I like it. There's smoky, nutty notes lingering with tar and sometimes like iodine. This is only my second Haitian rum but I starting to think it might be something to explore after this. Very good stuff.

strange... the batch with 55.9% is much better in my opinion and especially fruity and harmonious. here it is already almost burnt, something medicinal, iodine and salty, plus vinegar and tar. unfortunately does not quite meet my taste... the one with 55.9% on the other hand is a dream!

After the smell, the taste is surprisingly sweet and spicy. The balance is not prrfect, alcohol a bit too harsh.

Solid unaged clairin, more of a sipper for connoisseurs but excellent in cocktails. The nose and taste have grass, sugarcane, and other plants, probably the most pleasant of the four commonly available clairins (Sajous, Vaval, Casimir, Communal) in my opinion.

The funk is for real in this one. It might not be for everyone, but it is for me. The smell is fantastic; it reminds me guarapo juice with lime (sugarcane juice), for newcomers will suggest either lowering down the alcohol with water when trying neat. Mix with whatever you like, Coconut water or lime juice.

Très bon rapport qualité prix, j ai adoré ce rhum. À peine la bouteille ouverte booom explosion d odeur, un nez fort avec du végétal en veux tu en voila. En bouche je suis surpris par la chaleur ronde que je ressent, le végétal est toujours bien présent ainsi qu une point iodé. Une finale moyenne j ai trouver mais toujours sur les mêmes accents… Allez y sans hésiter.
