Beautiful sweet and lush nose. Significantly weaker on the palate. Dry and classic like a single malt. Alcohol is well integrated. I liked it better (today?) than MG XO, Sixty Six 12 and MG Triple Cask. But the Seale 10yo was even better because it was more complex and not quite as sweet

I think that the Real McCoy is the top brand from Foursquare, except for the ones named Foursquare. The nose is fruity and woody. At the palate it’s fruity, woody, roasted, round and spicy. The finish is quite long for a rum at just ABV 40.

This rum surprised me, I really like it. On the nose and palate, a pleasant vanilla and caramel flavor, and on the palate also a light coconut taste. This rum really knows how to impress.

I prefer fruity, funky rums - but I'm also curious. Here I like the pleasantly balanced woody notes, strong but not super dominant or even astringent. I'm looking forward to fruity drinks with McCoy12 as a counterbalance.

My frist McCoy. Very smooth and fine. A nice sipper, but a bit overpriced for me. Mount Gay Rums of the same price category deliver more intensity and more complexity.

It was a crazy day at work. Found this one at my local store a while ago but never opened it. Decided to pop it open and cook dinner for my wife to take my mind off work. Nose: At first, strong oak on the nose but if you give it some air, I get vanilla and coco. Palate: Typical Foursquare flavors. Balanced, oak, vanilla, caramel. Finish: Surprisingly long finish despite the low ABV, with some nuts, dried fruit and some spice.

On the nose, there is chocolate, wood and general cask. A dark scent with good sweetness. The palate lives up to the nose well. Really delicious and classic Barbados rum.

A good, easy sipping rum, with the authenticity of an unadulterated Barbados rum. However, for experienced rum drinkers it lacks any distinct personality, and will soon be forgotten.

Woody aromas flow directly into the nose right after pouring. Nothing more at first. Then gradually vanilla kipferl with coconut sprinkles. Very appealing in combination with the woody tones. On the palate initially cool. At the back also initially woody tones. On the second sip it gets a bit sweeter and the kipferl with coconut come to the fore. Don't get me wrong, the vanilla aroma is not artificially sweet. Very restrained. Great rum for just under 30 bucks.

Comparison to the Limited Edition: Despite 6% less alcohol, significantly stronger alcohol perception at the start, while it presents itself more pleasingly in aroma. Clearly more coconut on the nose. Finish is less intense and shorter than the 46% version. The fruit component at the end is completely missing, which is why this one loses out in comparison.

An easy drinking medium light rum that has a lot of the classic Foursquare notes but falls short on finish and alcohol. I have used it mixed with agricole in a daiquiri to some nice results though. Decent with a lighter cigar as well.

Spicy, roasted, woody with pleasant warm oak / barrel notes, a bit of coconut but rather subdued compared to other Barbados rums, slight dried fruit in the background on the nose, very faint on the palate. Spicy, peppery finish. Drinks: - Neat: 4/5

Top rum at around 30€, neat but quite flat and short-lived, however very suitable for cocktails. For a Foursquare, almost disappointing, but the expectation has to be adjusted to the price, then it’s a nice rum.

Smells of the oak smell of tropical aged rum. To be brutally honest these feels dialed down in flavours when coming from the famous Foursquare distillery. It comes in at 44 quid for a bottle of this delicious oak and chocolate but alongside doorleys XO save your money on this one and but the xo ... Quality rum that's been unadulterated but poor for a 12 year ...

Read full review ›Initially there is a lot of sweet orange citrus and more bitter zest when sipped, moving onto charred oak notes, spicy black pepper and those smoky tobacco notes. The finish is actually quite spicy and tingly but in no way unpleasant and longlasting. Another classic rum from a classic distillery....
