Tar, glue and bicycle-tube rubber lead the way, wrapped in vanilla, tobacco and dark chocolate — the classic heavy Caroni signature at full throttle. It needs a long time in the glass to settle, but once it opens, members find the 77.3% remarkably well tucked in; one blind taster couldn't spot the strength. Powerful, oily and deeply savory rather than sweet.

Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: The rum should breathe long, but then there are fantastic flavors and almost perfectly integrated alcohol. Blind, the over 70% alcohol strength is definitely not noticeable. Classic Caroni notes with rubber and tar, plus heavy wood sweetness and dried fruit, vanilla and pastry, bitter-tart hints of leather and dark chocolate...and even that is far from everything. Every drop is a pure pleasure, this is simply excellent!

05.06.2026 I am in the mood for Caroni today so I decided to dig out some of the samples I have. No spitting today for sure 😃 ----------- This is an old tasting from the time I lived in China. The tasting was a surprise so only a few notes were made on a paper napkin 😊 Very nice color with nice typical Caroni flavours. Long resting was needed to make it settle down. Good ABV integration.

After a slight disappointment with the tasting of the 1985 vintage, I was eager to try this second legendary single cask. The nose is very round, reminiscent of certain LTR or BTR Caroni profiles, with an exceptional alcohol integration. The palate is more complex but above all extremely expressive and powerful, which brings a great balance to this rather gourmand profile. An excellent rum that, in my opinion, clearly outclasses its 1985 counterpart.

... Caroni is a distillery from Trinidad, producing at the height of its glory a rum that was added in a ratio of 1:10 to the naval blend. It was too distinctive and strange to be pleasant on the tongue. In 2000 the distillery ended production and was closed. Only in 2010 did tasters appear who liked the rum precisely for its special taste. And interest grew. Caroni belongs to the category of rums "you need to try before you die". I recommend it, Caroni is really a unique rum.
