One taster who'd always dodged J. Bally as "too commercial" called this Corman Collins pick a real find — and most agree. It's dark and woody up front, with old cedar, dark chocolate, dried fruit and coffee, then grassy sugarcane and citrus breaking through underneath. An 18-year Cognac-cask agricole that leans heavy on oak and tannin. Bitterness sits there too, so wood lovers win here.

Dark and oily. Very heavy, the scent lies him room. Chocolate, coffee, wood, caramel, leather. Only when you put your nose in the glass the fresh, grassy notes of an Agricoles come to light.a tart, long-lasting aftershave in the mouth. It now completely denies its origin, after a few minutes you briefly feel some grassy freshness on the palate.Craftsmanship very good, well balanced, alcohol integration a model. Wood you just have to likeFriends of old, heavy Demeraras, this is THE Agricole for you.

Enjoying this one right now. I got a sample with my latest order that I picked up today. It needs to rest for at least 15 minutes before you have a go at it. The nose is there right away and is wonderful. The palate is warm and woody with some apple and nuts to it. Very well balanced and complex. The finish is long and woody, warm and spicy, yummy. Unfortunately this is an auction only since very few bottles were released and gone in a flash.

This is a very special highlight for me. I've always wanted to try it. I've also always found the label appealing, beautifully simple, elegant and yet special. 1000 thanks to Eugen for giving me this rare sample 🤗. Nose: elegantly concentrated and complex. You immediately smell old, spicy cedar wood with a pleasant wood acidity. Reminds me of Calvados and old brandy. There are also beautiful dark fruits, blackcurrant and sour cherry with old, dried orange slices. And something like fruit bread. It becomes softer on the finish with fine leather, vanilla and a delicate licorice sweetness. Could smell it forever. 9,1 Palate: powerful and complex with a beautiful, oily texture. Initially quite woody acidity, salty, slightly bitter. Spicy sandalwood is very present. Then come pleasantly dark, tart fruits with blackcurrant and sour cherry. It is beautifully spicy, with a mixture of nutmeg, caraway and liquorice. It becomes grassier on the finish, with woody sugar cane coming through and some leather and tobacco. Delicious. 9.1 Great, old, tropically matured Martinique with a lot of depth.

I’m being honest: in the past, I’ve always avoided J. Bally as I deemed it as too commercial..well..this Corman Collins release is truly a gem..you get a ton of fresh fruits (apricot and a slight touch of green apple), then wood, spices (vanilla and cinnamon), a clear note of dark chocolate with a hint of fresh mint.. really pleased with it..if you find a bottle, I suggest to grab it! :)

While the typical green, fresh Agricole notes are clearly perceptible on the nose alongside a pronounced spiciness, the palate is dominated by roasted notes, tobacco and leather. If I had a whole bottle, I would certainly drink it more often with a cigar 🥃💨

Very dominant agricole notes of grass, apple, young wood and green fruits. Lots of bitter notes on the palate. Unfortunately not my cup of tea. Certainly something for Agricole fans.

I always wanted to try this one, and now I need a bottle of it. At the very top of my personal Agricole scale. The nose is already amazing, grassy Agricole notes, citrus fruits, coffee, leather. Plenty of wood on the palate, just about okay for me. Long finish, initially with wood and dark chocolate, then transitioning into endlessly lasting grassy notes.

Exceptional. Nicely integrated alcohol, perfect intensity. Lots of wood, but various fruity and vegetal notes come through, giving enormous complexity. The slight astringency concentrates the aromas in the long finish. Besides the 2006 BdF, my best J. Bally so far, top class. Thanks to Eugen for the sample!

On the nose, a beautiful seductive woodiness is omnipresent. But I’m surprised to find something very fruity too (citrus-tropical fruits)! The nose is gourmand and the alcohol is barely noticeable. You find plenty of dried fruits, spices and good Belgian chocolate (well yes, it’s a Belgian bottling!). When you dip your lips, it’s lively, intense, the alcohol perfectly integrated, it’s warm. As the nose might suggest, the wood takes the lead in this first attack on the palate. But the other aromas quickly reveal themselves.

A very dark Martiniquais!! The nose mixes citrus and tobacco, you can also feel the work of the cognac barrel! On the palate it’s chocolate tobacco with some dried fruits, really very good! The wood is not too present at all! A little touch of licorice brings a bit of freshness. Great tasting!

Here, this Bally 18 years was really shaped by the Cognac cask, offering this spirit a beautiful complexity and above all an incredible indulgence... Far from being an undrinkable woody juice, this Bally succeeds in being affordable both in terms of tasting and financially. Indeed, €149 for an 18-year-old AOC agricole rum is quite rare and worth noting. A superb winter rum.
