William Hinton 6 Years Port Cask (Portuguese)
Made for drinkers who like their agricole steered toward wine and wood. This Madeira cane-juice rum spends six years then takes a heavy port finish — cherry, raisins, black tea and tannins over a grassy backbone. Dry and a touch peppery on the palate, with a long finish that outlasts the modest 42%. A few tasters feel the port pushes a little too hard.

How does William Hinton 6 Years Port Cask (Portuguese) taste?
Aggregated from 14 community reviews.
Dry, port-driven agricole with long tannic finish A pleasant surprise for most — more complex than the ABV suggests, and dry throughout. The one recurring gripe: the port can dominate the cane character.

Agricol in aroma wonderfully refined with port wine. Scent of cherries, raisins, grass and slightly wood. Taste more woodsy but also vinous. You can feel the burn of the barrel. Long finish, dry, barrel winey. Excellent dry for evenings by the fireplace

A nose of white port, with vegetal, wood and tropical fruit in the background. The palate is both sweet and spicy, like black pepper. Aromas of black tea, tannins. White port still hovers over this rather interesting beverage. Quite a long finish, especially considering the rather low ABV. A pleasant surprise, a much more complex rum than I'd imagined, with a lovely mouthfeel and length. The aromas aren't quite balanced and the port has too much influence for my taste, but otherwise an excellent juice!

Tasted this single cask at the Rhum Fest Paris 2026. It’s rather rare cause it’s a blend of 75% 6yo and 25% 25yo rum where the latter one was produced at their historic Engenho do Hinton which closed 1985. This blend was then finished in former port wine casks. The nose is complex, intense, sweet, spicy, fruity and vegetal with scents of vanilla, cinnamon, dried fruit, raisins and tobacco. At the palate it’s full bodied, dry, woody, spicy and fruity with flavors of port wine, tannins, licorice, vanilla, cinnamon, pepper, red fruits, plum and chocolate. The finish is long, dry and spicy.

#6676 22.04.2026 Enjoying a few samples after a nice 14 km walk at a nice pace. Listening to Ben Gold, Maarten de Jong and Armin van Buuren on Spotify. A decent bottling in my mind. A medium intense profile with fruits, nutts and nice spices.
