"Very nice Demerara," one member sums up, and the crowd agrees — this is old-school Enmore through and through. Wet, dark wood leads, then anise, licorice, black pepper and dried apricot, all wrapped in a roasted, almost charred edge. At 58% it hits hard and needs air; a couple of drops of water tame the wall and let the spice and honeyed sweetness through. Powerful, dry and unmistakably continental.

RumX Blind Tasting 8x Enmore 1990 Rum Nr. 2 Milde Nase, deutlich höherer ABV, was dem Rum spürbar mehr Komplexität verleiht. Schöne Noten von Schwarztee und Tabak, insgesamt kraftvoller und strukturierter als zunächst erwartet. Im direkten Vergleich überraschend schwächer als gedacht, weshalb ich meine ursprüngliche Bewertung nach unten korrigieren musste. Besten Dank an Alex für die Organisation!

Very spicy, dark and almost burnt Enmore. Personally a bit too much for me and it combines quite a few aromas I don't like: charred wood, licorice, marzipan and anise. Drinks well, but it's just absolutely not my thing. It lacks some complexity that Enmore usually offers. Continental is just not the same as tropical...

Dried apricot, licorice, black pepper, anise, wood, roastiness - there's a lot going on in the glass here too. Air does the rum good to tame the initial power a bit; then an extremely exciting spectrum of aromas unfolds, which approaches extremes again and again both in smoke and spices, only to dive back into the heavy sweetness that brings out the yellow fruits, rock sugar and wood notes. The finish is long and quite a bit fiery - this bothers me less in this case because it fits the powerful overall impression. An excellent rum with a lot of power and expressiveness.

Blindtasting Enmore 1990 Nr.2: An der Nase recht verhalten und schwach wahrnehmbar..dezente Würz- und Kräuteraromen. Am Gaumen anfangs eine Süße und deutlich mehr ABV, was den Aromen zu Gute kommt. Der Abgang ist mittellang undklassisch auf der würzig kräuterigen Seite Edit: Beim gestrigen Blindtasting babe ich diesen Rum 0,2 Punkte nach unten korrigiert

Very good demerara stuff 🥃 The alcohol could be integrated better. Dried apricot, vanilla, wood, toasted in the nose. Anise, roasted, vanilla, pastries, oak, almonds in the mouth. Very round and delicious, but very spicy. The finish is long demerara like with some notes of the barrel(oak) burnt (demerara) sugar and vanilla. An astrigent(tanninis) felling. Later on there are some notes of mint and anise. Very delicious. I‘ll add some drops of water, maybe it shows up some more notes

Thanks first to Alex_Kunath for the split, otherwise I probably would never have dealt with so many 90s Enmores. I'm currently torn whether the first two I tried are really my world.

Cross Tastinge across 12 bottlings of 1990 Versialles destilled Enmores. Looking at the cask strength / 50%+ ABV bottlings in the line up (CG, DT, Duchess, Greenheart I & II, RdL, Sponge, TWJ), all deliver on the classic Versailles notes: Pencil, herbs/anis, some continental fruits and a wet/moldy woodiness. Quality wise I don’t see an outlier tbh, all very enjoyable. Noticeable, however, is a very intense nose on the Sponge, which adds lots of resin and „woody“ notes to the mix,probably paying tribute to its (partly) maturation in wine casks. This is clearly outstanding out of the batch. Bonus points for the older Greenheart and TWJ for highest intensity on the (continental) fruit notes for me. DT and The Duchess gravitating more towards spicy notes in the mix. Same overall verdict for the palate. All rums in the batch are of high quality and there is no dramatic outlier (good or bad), except for the Rum Sponge. While I enjoyed the nose, on the palate the bottling is overwhelmed by wine notes. As for a lot of finished/double matured releases I just don’t see the point and here don’t like it particularly. Among the other bottlings: the DT is particularly nicely balanced with a pleasant sweetness working nicely with herbal and more darker notes. Very enjoyable. My favorite on the palate is probably the younger Greenheart (at least in this sitting). Almost as balanced as the DT but with a bit more anise and herbal notes for a bit more excitement. The older Greenheart is also very nice, with a bit less sweetness yet also very nicely balanced. TWJ and The Duchess are overall a bit more in the harsher side concerning alcohol integration, yet still very good. Very strong bottlings of the vinatage overall and a pleasure to have some side by side. Cheers to Alex for curating (most of) the tasting set! 🙌

Very dense and multi-layered. Very smoky at the beginning, almost too firmly charred. The intensity overwhelmed me at the beginning (one-dimensional). Much more aromas are added later. Explosive on the palate. The increased ABV is noticeable in the taste, but is not perfectly integrated.

A wonderful rum that has roasted barrel notes to it from nose to finish. Lightly fruity with spices and some licorice and marzipan. Lovely medium to long finish.

Community tasting Enmore 1990 VSG/MEV as a blind tasting. Rum2: Stronger than Rum 1 with lots of glue and wood. But also more one-dimensional. Herbs are there too. Nicely intense but few aromas. Maybe one point ahead of Rum1. Tasted were: Rum1 = rx1560 Alambic Classic Rum 2 = rx3280 Cave Guildive Rum 3 = rx12797 RDL Rum 4 = rx 1432 Rum Nation Rum 5 = rx 5924 Duncan Taylor Rum 6 = rx 5423 Moon Import Rum 7 = rx 17311 Rum Sponge Rum 8 = rx 12427 Greenheart My ranking: 8 > 7 = 5 > 6 = 3 > 4 = 2 > 1

Community Tasting Enmore 1990. No 2. A nose of old wood, black tea, caramel, vanilla and dried fruits. A fresh and fruity background with banana and herbs. A lively palate marked by the tannins of the wood and vanilla, other aromas are also present with herbal freshness and tropical fruits. The finish is rather short but the wood persists with fresh notes. A rather closed, austere and one-sided rum but coherent and complete.

Rum no 2 of the Enmore Tasting. Here the nose is mostly dominated by wood as well, slightly fruity with a sour note. The Alcohol is strong, and I get the licorice that I find in many of those rums. Tastewise very similar of course to no1, only more intense. And better. There are more spices here, and I got some honey at the start of the sip, that unfortunately runs away to hide very fast.

An Enmore in dark tones, even for a distillation at Versailles. The nose is ultra spicy and strongly marked by wood. You find pencil shavings, anise, licorice, chili, pepper and vanilla, but also roasted notes and a sulfur smell that impregnate the nostrils. Brown sugar, caramel and dried apricots bring diversity and softness. An aromatic and powerful nose. The attack on the palate is gripping, the rum packs a punch with a lightning bolt of spices (anise, chili, licorice, pepper, vanilla) accompanied by dark and roasted wood to the core. While dried apricots are discreet, the sweet notes stand out with honey aromas, while herbal flavors and pencil shavings burst in to balance everything. The profile is dry, powerful but elegant. The alcohol is present, maybe it could be integrated just a bit better. The finish is long but rather discreet on aromas. These are very focused on the tannic, dark, roasted, smoky, malty, even burnt side for the sugar. The dried apricots remain valiant but the wood and spices clearly dominate the scene without leaving room for doubt or other aromas. A good Enmore on paper, a bit rough around the edges and quite one-sided in the background, but intense and pleasant to drink.

Guyana tasting 1990 by Alex. All rums were aired for 30 minutes, equal rights for all :-) Number 2 doesn't differ much from number 1. On the nose it seems more medicinal, but on the palate it offers more alcohol.

... Enmore - former distillery, now only a functional distillation device. Probably the only wooden distillation device in the world that is very popular. Enmore rums have flavors of ash, leather, heavy wood, which especially excites lovers of smoky whiskies. And if the producer adds a bit of molasses to the rum in the traditional Guyanese way, you have a unique, very pronounced and heavy rum in the bottle. One of my favorites..
