This single-cask Versailles pot still runs dark and dry — toasted oak, prune, cherry and burnt sugar, with an earthy, licorice-tinged finish that turns tannic. At 57% the alcohol stays present, enough that one taster kept thinking whisky. A few drops of water tame the heat and let the dried fruit through.

8,6:On the nose, copper, sulphur, intense, toasted wood notes like caramel, spicy, thick molasses, vegetal with soy sauce, fennel, dark with black tea, prunes, cherry, dried apricots, raisins, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, pineapple, banana hints arise, black pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, cinnamon and roasted nuts, leather,, slightly dirty, earthy molasses, pencil shavings. 8,6:On the palate, the attack is coppery, sulphurous, sweet with toasted wood notes like caramel, burnt sugar, leather, nuts, spicy with baking spices, vanilla, umami hints, fruity with dried apricots, raisins, prunes, citrus fruits, plums, cherry, marmelade like, candied fruits, as molasses is dark with licorice, black tea, earthy with pencil shavings, tobacco. 8,5:The finish is medium long, dry&tannic, slightly medicinal, oak is toasted with cocoa, caramel, nuts, coffee, spicy, fruity with dried, citrus fruits, as molasses is dark with licorice, vegetal, earthy with pencil shavings. 11.01.2020 - 12.01.2020 Splitting some samples over two days. Notes. Dark in colour. Nose: Round, wood, cherry, plum, light roasted, caramel. Palate: Oily, wood, roasted, plum, earthy, herbs, caramel, light licorice. Finish: Medium long, wood, roasted, dried fruit, licorice, earthy. Sample was from a bottle my company received as a present from an Italian supplier.

Small Milano Rum Festival Tasting: a mediocre Diamond with pleasant dried plum, pencil shavings, caramel, and toasted wood. Better than the first one, but alcohol still present on the palate and finish.

As the name suggests, we are on a rum from Guyana distilled in 2004 on the historic Versailles Wooden Still at Diamond Distillery.Bottled specifically for the Milano Rum Festival 2018 at 272 bottles.So this is a 57% Single Cask 14 year old.It is a full bodied rum. It's a full bodied rum...very powerful, even a little too alcoholic for my taste. It is long in mouth with notes of bitter citrus fruits, spices (pepper-anise) and smoky-woody. Personally, I was not conquered, but it is very difficult to follow after the Explosive Hampden H tasted just before!

Exciting. The nose is smoky. On the palate, chocolate, roasting, and smoke. The finish is smoky and a bit roasted, with little chocolate. The alcohol stands out a bit. Very confusing, I keep thinking of whisky, very strong whisky associations.
