Berry Bros & Rudd St Lucia Rum 14-Year-Old (The Nectar)
Well-liked but a little divisive — some call it their least favorite St Lucia, others love how unusual it is. Ripe pineapple and green apple lead, then a big herbal, almost medicinal streak of eucalyptus and mint, with wax, resin and toasted oak underneath. At 52.5% the alcohol is well integrated; a few drops of water and some air pull the fruit forward. The finish leans dry and woody.

How does Berry Bros & Rudd St Lucia Rum 14-Year-Old (The Nectar) taste?
Summarized by AI from 16 community reviews.
Herbal, fruity St Lucia with a dry oak finish Most rate it a very good, genuinely offbeat St Lucia — the herbal, eucalyptus side surprises people. The main gripe: the finish falls a touch short.

A very beautiful cuvée showing that the small island of Saint Lucia is not lacking in rum. The nose is rich and opulent with exotic and heavy fruitiness on pineapple, apple, peach, but also prune. Then come notes of beeswax and honey that emphasize a floral then vegetal side, fresh and pleasing to the nose. The spices and wood are reserved but, together with nuts, give a little extra that brings balance to the whole. The attack is marked by ripe notes on tropical fruits (pineapple), overripe apple, and always this honeyed side that brings softness and comfort to the palate. The spices are a bit warmer but go hand in hand with the floral and vegetal notes to bring variety and balance in the mouth. The flavor combination is harmonious and original, a beautiful success. The alcohol is also very well integrated. The finish is not as intense but extends in duration with fresh notes of eucalyptus, almost medicinal. The overripe fruits, spices, and honey are still present, subtly enhancing the palate with their aromas. A very good rum, complete and balanced, subtle but generous, inviting travel to this discreet little Caribbean island.

I admit this is my least favorite St Lucie, and I'm a bit disappointed. There are nice ripe fruits, a bit of pineapple and apple quite easy to detect but alongside that, too much wax and timid spices. The whole thing finishes a bit early.. it lacks length, it lacks something, this affair.

On the nose, it's intriguing. You find the finesse of beautiful exotic fruits but with the heaviness of solvents and glues. After airing, it's more pastry-like with a touch of eucalyptus freshness. On the palate, it's spicy and almondy. The 52.5% are perfectly tamed and you find the freshness of the nose more on the menthol. Exotic fruits brighten up the tasting. We have a nice length more on the woody side. In conclusion: Rich, concentrated, herbal, spicy and with a nice fresh length. I absolutely have to pay more attention to this island.

On the nose, you have to approach it gently otherwise it burns, but it surely deserves more aeration. Once you approach it more gently the nose appears and I have lots of vanilla, fruits, apple (Klaudia says rotten, I say green, sour / quite lively), overripe peach, tropical fruits. A little low ester / Guyana jam side. I feel like I'm on a Guyana with a gourmand side brought by the vanilla (bourbon cask? I don't have the info). On the palate, the entry is full yeast but rounded by the fruits. The alcohol a bit too present in the mouth, it burns a bit at first but then it's captivating, it envelops. It starts quite dry, bitter then it rounds out and becomes slightly more gourmand. Second sip much smoother, much more pleasant and a bitterness (maybe from the wood) dominates the rest of the mouth. Third sip even better. The more it opens the better it is (less bitter / alcoholic etc). Quite similar feeling as on the chairman RA and RTN. The finish is super good, focused on wood with a little fruit. I have quite a bit of that apple coming out.

Nose: scotch tape, green apple, glue, herbals, resin, prunes, leather, toasted oak. Palate: very dry, spicy, salty, green apples, fruity, and the dominate of herbals, eucalyptus, grass, minty, basil & roots. Aftertaste: long, dominate of herbals, roots, grass, minty & eucalyptus. Conclusion: medium-long. very unusual. Absolutely different style of St.Lucia.
