Rhum J.M XO
Softer than most people expect from an agricole — the grassy bite is dialed back and cask does a lot of the talking. Expect vanilla, pepper, dry oak and juicy sugarcane, with dried fruit and a touch of tobacco underneath. At 6 years and 45%, several tasters call it their go-to first agricole. A few find the wood takes over the finish.
The community says- Well balanced
- Easy agricole entry
- But: Not very complex

How does Rhum J.M XO taste?
Aggregated from 317 community reviews.
Balanced, cask-forward gateway agricole Most people treat this as the reference entry-level Martinique agricole: balanced, fruity, spicy, not too grassy. The common gripe is it's pleasant but not very complex, and turns dry and woody late.

A fine benchmark for agricultural rums. More complex and rounder than the VSOP, its aromas draw on spices, wood and tobacco, mixed with fruity notes. Dry but round on the palate, the finish is warm and very pleasant. A clear success.

The taste is less aggressive than many other Agricole’s. I would even say that it’s rather mild at same time that it’s very elegant. A perfect entrance to the Agricole world. The aromas and flavors is fruity, spicy and woody with citrus, pepper, cinnamon and oak clearly recognizable.

A nice agricole with notes of some spices, oak, vanilla. Finish is with some oak, litle hay/grass. Nice agricole
Review by cigares
A very nice surprise, a rum with depth, balance and punch despite its low ABV. A very good quality-price ratio. Certainly it is not a great rum, but it comes close. Super pleasant!
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
Review by LukaŽiga
8,5:On the nose, the first impression is nice and tempting, as it is very round, complex. There are vanilla, dried fruits(raisin and prune), the wood is dry, some orange peel, spices and a touch of flowers and tea. After airing, tobacco notes are present, as sugar cane is very juicy, earthy, mineral. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is soft, waxy and spicy, with earthy juicy sugar cane, mineral, volcanique and pepper.Citrus fruits, dried fruits, tea, dry wood, some nuts and vanilla take over the palate, very round and tasty, as the cane becomes more honeyed. 8,4:The finish is long, woody, dry, slightly bitter, with warm spices, vegetal and floral, tea rounds it up very nicely, as cane is still juicy. Edit:25.4.26

Average rum nose. Rather woody would be my only real note. The palate is a little like whiskey, lots of wood and a little spice, but, not so much that it's off putting for me. A touch of cocoa and cherry keeps things nice. It has a long finish that plays with being similar to a whiskey again. With lots of peppery and leather notes. Not a bad rum at all. For me, at that price. I think I'd prefer something else. Something more fruit forward.

Very solid, usual J.M quality.

#4429 Whisky & Rom Festival 2023 28.10.2023 Notes. Really well balanced and fruity rum. Nice spices and well integrated wood. There are also nice vegetal notes. Very fresh profile.

"Belle découverte Un classique. Comme tous les JM on a pas mal de bois. En resume, mes notes de degutation : Au nez : Vanillé En bouche : Poivré, Chêne La finale plutot orientee vers : Boisé, Épicé"

A reverence for Martinican agriculture for non-experts! Back to the oak barrel, the typical spices on the nose, on the palate.... In short, I love it! Even if I've tasted much better, for an XO that's available everywhere! It's still very good!
Review by abaker-rum
The nose, palate, and finish show a lot of the barrel characteristics pulling in vanilla, caramel, maple, wood, pepper, and other spice. It is a pleasant rhum that isn’t super complex, but an enjoyable experience.
Review by Timo Groeger
Wow ein klasse Agricole von Rhum J.M. Gefällt mir grad wirklich gut. Tolle Nase, wir haben hier Vanille, Holz und Gewürze. Am Gaumen setzt sich das fort. Wieder Vanille, Holz und Gewürze, außerdem leicht pfefferig.
Review by Eric Frechin
Review by Henry Davies
It is not a typical Rhum Agricole but picks up some of the expected notes. The nose is sweet and inviting, deep orange peel and tangerine with grass and elderflower. The mouth is pleasant if not unassuming, green pepper and hay combined with some pear and fruits. Finish is short, dry with notes of leather. I thought I would like it more than I did - a solid middle of the road Rhum Agricole that doesn’t try to do too much.
Review by Rene Pfeiffer
Round Agricole. Super availability. Therefore well suited as an entry into the Agricole world.
Review by MarcT
I reviewed this after quite some time, and the Rum had ample time to breathe (as the bottle was half empty for the year), and was quite astonished: either the rum changed (for the better), or my taste improved. I guess it is both. This time I got much more the vegetal notes attributed to Agricoles, which compliments the overall experience very well.

Surprisingly good despite its low ABV.

Der Benchmark für Agricole. Da muss man mal vorbeikommen. Super PLV.
Review by Quentin Demillière
Rum with character, with a very woody and spicy side in mouth. Long-lasting aromas on the palate, pleasant to drink.
Review by lukasdrinkinghabits
Bitterkeit. Abgang trockenes Gras und Holz . Sehr trocken, aber auch sehr ausgewogen.
Review by Benoit Mahe
A very balanced Agricole rum, we would drink liters of it. It lacks character and length but the profile is super pleasant.

Review by Arnaud Faverjon
Very good and accessible, fruity and with a nice roundness.
Review by Tom Buteneers
After 40 days without a drink, time for some action. This gets 80 points out of 160 reviews, so I’m not going to mess with it. I like it, it has a nice balance, is not overly sweet and still a good kick to it for only 45%. With that being said, my system probably needs a couple of sessions to get used to some higher ABV’s. This is a nice benchmark to broaden my agricole horizons and it makes for an excellent starting point for this part of my rum journey. Cheers 🥃

Review by Christophe Milot
Review by Nando70

A fruity aroma, vanilla, a little bit of caramel. The taste is spicy, peppery, in the aftertaste also a little cocoa and slightly fruity.
Review by Alan Bertoli

A great core range expression, maybe even better than some single casks or millesimes
Review by adn butrulle
Review by MoMcGurk
Received this as a retirement gift from a friend. Agricoles are not my first choice in rums, but I liked this one. Sweet, without a burn when enjoyed straight up. Less earthy than many of them usually are. Straight was better than mixed.
Review by Renato
Review by Djehey

Prima.
