Sipped neat at cask strength, this Diamond leans dark and roasty — burnt caramel, licorice and roasted wood, with prunes sitting quietly underneath. The nose charms with florals and dried fruit, then the palate turns bitter and woody, and several tasters found that switch a letdown. A splash of water tames the alcohol burn. Honest verdict: pleasant, but nothing that sticks in memory.

25.09.2019 Had a nice meet up with friends at this nice hotel near the airport. Notes Dark in colour. Nose Wood, light roasted, anise, floral, faint coffee, plum, faint smoke. Palate Warm, wood, light roasted, light coffee, dried fruit, plum, medium dry, light earthy. Finish Medium to long, wood, light roasted, light coffee, plum, faint chocolate.

Sitting in the cabin, watching the storm outside playing with the trees... Thought this one of the samples I brought was fitting. It is very closed to the nose, later after some water I get Licorice, Wood and burnt Caramel. This translates to the tongue and to the aftertaste. I am a bit disappointed, but it was good nonetheless. The ambience was fitting - a bit harsh alcohol burn, lots of roasted wood and outside the hard weather reigns.

Unfortunately I couldn't find out which distillery the RM comes from. Perhaps a young Enmore? The color is quite dark for the rather young vintage, probably sugar couleur is involved? in play? Quite floral on the nose, yellow fruit, burnt sugar, vanilla and cask. On the palate, I also have burnt sugar, as well as cocoa, wooden barrel and tannins. All in all, not bad, but not a rum to remember either.

Nose starts off very nice and complex but develops into a very woody / burnt experience quickly after some time in the glas. Also woody and dark notes dominat on the palate. Finish is a little short ending on a rather hollow woody note. All in all not really bad imho, but a little unassuming with no real highlights.

If the rum is still pleasantly mild on the nose, floral and slightly reminiscent of dried fruit, it loses a lot on the palate... a very short sweetness and then bitter roasted aromas predominate! In addition, the alcohol is not very well integrated! The finish remains almost identical! Too bad!

MDXC says the broker, whatever that means (Main Diamond ? Colored perhaps). What is reasonably certain is that it is colored Versailles. That means dark herbal soup, licorice and plenty of roasted aromas (burnt caramel) and prunes. Nice nose without surprises, smoother than e.g. the RA MDXC (although my bottle is already well oxidized) In the mouth: no surprises. It tastes like it smells. Very roasty, the dried fruits present in the nose recede somewhat. The rum is quite bitter, but I think this is more due to the coloring than the wood. Alcohol integration is fine. The finish is short and unspectacular, but the bitter taste of burnt caramel lingers on the tongue for a long time. 2004 is certainly not the best Versailles Vintage, but if it were officially called REV, the ratings would certainly be 5 points higher on average.

Very pleasant nose after aeration. Unpleasant acidity and bitterness on the palate, intensifying with aeration, with notes of cocoa and roasted coffee. Quite long finish on cocoa and leather. Not bad, but the nose was promising and the palate disappointing.

A diamond as I like them, very woody, with lots of red fruit, bitter citrus, spices and caramel, sometimes greedy, sometimes very strong. Notes of violet candy add a pleasant freshness. The alcohol is perhaps a little too present for my taste.
