Near-unanimous love here, with only a tiny wrinkle: a few tasters catch a small off-note in the finish that keeps it just shy of perfect. Otherwise it's classic Hampden HLCF — glue and nail polish on the nose, grilled pineapple, banana and citrus, then wood, spice and roasty, almost bacon-like depth. Give it 30+ minutes in the glass; several say that's when it truly opens up.

Still one of my favorites.... I have never killed so many bottles of any other rum.... Whether neat or in Mai Tai, it's simply delicious. Opened the last bottle today...😭😭😭😭 I love this HD ... PLV Monster !!!

he needs time, but then he really gets going :) the enmore finish is really good for him, but only comes into its own after 30/40 minutes! Definitely absolute champions league at Hampden rums, great cinema!

Beautifully balanced continental HLCF. Wood and roasted aromas predominate here, barrel ageing comes through nicely. Very strong alcohol, but to be expected at 65%. Quite mild on the finish. Restrained nose, very present on the palate.

One of my favorite Hampden! What I appreciate so much about this one is its stark intensity, which goes both in the fruity and in very special measure in the spicy direction. In the mouth it hits like a bomb and is very warmly astringent! Tropical fruits, esters, anise, earthy notes and wood take over the aroma. Wood is a good keyword here, barrel aging is really on point for me! Fruity and spicy notes are balanced. Honestly, I got myself a second bottle here. Perhaps it will also still a third....

What a beautiful classic. If you give it the time in the glass or really hold out and don't drink it right away on the fine nose, you will be fully rewarded. For me, this is simply one of the best Hampdens I've had in a glass, even though it was stored continentally, it definitely doesn't need to hide from the tropical ones. Only a small off-note in the finish prevents it from achieving an even better rating.

What else can be said here, a really excellent Hampden. Has the great/typical Hampden funk, lots of esters, but of course the tropical fruits banana and pineapple must not be missing. On the palate also slightly woody.

We give it a little time to unfold. After 2h in the glass, he has besides the classic notes of pineapple, banana, ester and citrus, still a noticeable alcoholic note that jumps at you! Not unpleasant when you consider that he has just under 66% alcohol. On the palate a great interplay of all components, very balanced and round despite the high alcohol content! Class astringency, tannins, fruit and esters - in the finish we still find some dried fruit and bitter notes that fit super into the overall picture! For me as a HLCF fan a very great continental representative of the last millennium! Chapeau!

Needs some time in the glass, but then it's a very nice continental aged HLCF. Tropical fruits, quite a lot of wood and ester. All quite harmonious. Prices at release were of course unbeatable.

Oh so beautiful. The fine ester Hampden nose. Sweet glue and slightly pungent nail polish remover. Fruitiness of ripe pineapple and orange or tangerine zest and tartness of currant. Spicy and resinous-woody. Very round.Very intense on the palate. Comes across very astringent at first. And actually I have something toasty-bacony on the tongue. Bitter-salty-sweet, in that order. Then the sweet glue and just behind that, tart, ripe pineapple. Altogether more tart and powerful than the nose. Spicy woody then. Ester, wood, anise, sometime transitioning to grassy finish.A really nice, old Hampden.

... Hampden, the legendary Jamaican distillery that besides rum also produces alcohol for perfumes. In all rums from this distillery, you can smell wild esters, after which your whole body soaks up the scent of yellow tropical fruits - mango, papaya, pineapple, peach. One of the rums you "must try before you die".

Esters, glue, wood and spices dominate at first. With more time in the glass, the tropical fruits become more present. Fruits become more present. Lots of wood, spices and tropical fruit on the palate. Fruits. The finish is medium - long. Alcohol perfectly integrated. Round Hampden!

Nose: somewhat restrained but still nice and promising. Especially esters and pineapple. Added are light wood and vanilla notes as well as some glue. Over time it becomes more and more fruity. Taste: here it is anything but restrained. Again esters and pineapple. Also, I recognize here (unlike on the nose) some banana. Also light wood notes. Very nice mouthfeel. You definitely notice the alcohol, which is not really surprising. Finish: long The empty glass still smells wonderfully fruity for a long time. Wow, this is great! If the chance arises to get a bottle at a good price, grab it!

Great Hampden cinema: appearance of the typical Ester with its star, the grilled pineapple, co-staring yellow fruit. Long ageing has polished off a few rough edges, an old star with character. A slight off-note in the finish stands in the way of great cinema.

Very interesting on the nose. For me, the rum smells at first untypical of bacon (?) and only then fruity, esterlastig.am Palate then the typical Hampden taste. Compared to the young Hampden is the here nice and creamy, you can taste the wood. Slightly nutty, toasty. All very well balanced. Excellent.
