Epic Velier Caroni Tasting 2023: Clear menthol impact on the nose, nice balance overall. Relatively classic 2000 profile, with some tropical fruit and a clear barrel impact on the palate. A great single cask and a very good representative of the 2000 vintage.

Very nice 2000 single cask. Nose is intense displaying a typical and interesting Caroni mix of flavors - dirt and smoke alongside mint/menthol notes and some fruits hidden in the background (I think peach and some dried red fruits here). On the palate again very intense but a little less complex. Powerful, dirty and adstringent. Comes with a hint of sweetness which balances the palate nicely. Very good indeed.

Whisky Fair 2023 Solid Caroni 2000 vintage, rather fruity and surprisingly minty/menthol notes and some slight smoke(?). Paired with some dark, rubbery tar notes typical for HTR and some gentle woodyness. Really enjoyable!

Defintely a dry and dirty Caroni with a lot (or even too much ?) tar, leather or light smoke. ⛽️ Don't get me wrong, it's a good rum overall but the profile itself is not my cup of tea. I prefer more balanced Caronis with round and fruity notes like its sister cask #R4004 (Whisky Antique) which completely outclasses it by the way.

A Caroni Single Cask that flexes its muscles from the very first moment in the glass. On the nose, we find the distillery's typical markers, with notes of hydrocarbons, powerful empyreumatic notes that emerge in the glass and scent the nostrils, but also some hints of menthol, dried and exotic fruits and a touch of caramel that embellish a heavy, powerful and grimy profile. On aeration, strange olive notes appear. Very pleasant, intense, fresh and complex. The attack on the palate is a veritable explosion. This explosion reveals notes of tar and rubber, extreme smokiness, warm spices, leather, burnt wood, menthol and mineral flavors with a very rough, rocky edge. The bitterness makes itself felt, the caramel and dried fruit being very superficial here. Although the alcohol is fairly well integrated and the texture is rather creamy, the taste profile is very heavy, dry and intense. It's enough to treat a sore throat (or even wash out the stomach). The finish is of infinite length, carried by bitterness, smoky wood, empyreumatic hydrocarbon notes, leather and spices that leave no room for the slightest hint of subtlety. Clearly not the first Caroni to try in a tasting. This is an extreme profile, which needs a lot of time to reveal its potential and be appreciated at its true worth. Although it's opulent and powerful, it lacks a touch of finesse to be among the best.

28.02.2020 Had a nice meet up with new rum nerds. Notes. Medium dark to dark in colour. Nose Wood, smoke, orange, tar, rubber, mint, light caramel. Palate Oily, balanced, intense, smoke, tar, rubber, mint, caramel, dried fruit. Finish Long and warm, wood, smoke, tar, rubber, orange.

Probiert am Cata Wiki Stand auf der Village in Nürnberg. Geiler Scheiß. Wunderbare Nase mit Teer, Gummi, Menthol, Benzin, Schwarzpulver. Ein paar getrocknete und roten Früchte sind auch dabei. Am Gaumen dann versetzt ganz kurz süß, dann alkoholisch und dann ein Feuerwerk aus Benzin, Schießpulver, Gummi, Teer, Holz und Menthol. Frucht eher wenig. Sehr gut.

... Caroni je destilerie z Trinidadu, produkujici v dobe sve nejvetsi slavy rum, ktery se pridaval v pomeru 1:10 do namornickeho blendu. Byl totiz moc vyrazny a divny nez aby byl prijemny na jazyku. V roce 2000 destilerka skoncila s produkci a byla uzavrena. Az v roce 2010 se objevili degustatori, kteri si rum oblibili prave pro jeho specialni chut. A zajem rostl. Caroni patri do kategorie rumu "you need to try before you die". Doporucuji, Caroni je opravdu unikatni rum.

Lies heavy on the tongue. Tar and rubber paired with dried fruit. Finish is earthy like whiskey, unexpectedly clean and somewhat fruity. Tar and earth on the nose. One is left a bit perplexed at the end. It is drinkable, not bad, but somehow lacks character. Perhaps already too typical Caroni.
