If you already chase high-ester rhum and think you've seen everything a white can do, this Savanna will still throw you. Green olive and brine sit right next to overripe pineapple, fermented strawberry and glue — one taster nails it as "chemical olive pineapple rum juice". The nose is lighter than you'd expect, then it explodes on the palate. At 57% it runs hot, spicy and peppery. Wild, unrefined, and not remotely subtle.

The rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favourites. I recommend everyone to try especially the higher ester pieces like Grand arome or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in a few little drops of liquid for a long time.

This was a lovely Savanna and we all agreed that it was really good. Fruity and fresh and you could small the rum standing on the table in front of you. Price to quality is very good in my mind. The surprise comes when you sample it because the nose is a bit light but it explodes on your palate.

8,3:On the nose, esters, glue, burnt rubber, solvents, fermented, overripe plum, grapes, like fruit schnapps, molasses with honey, olive, smoke, nuts, bacon, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, dried figs, pineapple, citrus, green fruits and strawberry arise, pungent, rotten, some hay and brine. 8,5:On the palate, the attack is dry, medicinal with esters, glue, rubber, funky, slightly synthetic, pungent with fermented, overripe, rotten citrus fruits, berries, pineapple and strawberry, like fruit schnapps, bitter with briny olive, nutty, smoky, spicy, some bacon and chocolate join, molasses is herbaceous, earthy. 8,2:The finish is medium long, dry with vegetal molasses, fresh, floral, hay-ish, minty, olive is briny, citrus, strawberry fermented, some candied, yoghurt notes arise, astringent, medicinal notes, rubber, smoky sourdough bread, spice. Not quite as good as the current one, but still a top HERR. Again, esters are present here along with many overripe and fermented fruits, especially strawberry and pineapple, and there's also a hint of olive.

As with the LORD, an intense smell pervades the entire room. However, it is a bit more tart, more veggie-like. Next to fermented pineapple, olive comes to mind. Intense, artificial, fruity, sweet.Sweet, fermented pineapple with overripe strawberry. Then a bit bitter to change right back to intense fruity sweet.The finish is almost logically fruity sweet. Like the Lord something quite extreme and yet exciting.

Well that’s a fun rum! It hits hard with a load of very different tasting notes to those I’ve recognised before. So it has a very strong olive note on the nose, some what on the palate and into the finish. It isn’t a brine note like a lot of rums but distinctly green olive 🫒. On the nose this can also be confused with (or it’s there in its own right) a pepperoni note. On the palate there is a lavender taste, which also joins the olive taste into the finish. The way the taste evolves it makes it like olive, pepperoni and lavender are flavours which are incredibly close together and overlapping- something I’ve never conceived of before! To complete the tasting notes there are spicy, peppery notes on the palate and it is pretty hot in the mouth. What a crazy rum! How to rate this?! It’s brilliant, unrefined, rogue and weird.
