The taste is incredibly soft and bold with sweet Columbian coffee, dark chocolate and lots of vanilla from the oak tree. The aftertaste is almost overwhelming, is nicely long and with a really good balance - I have to admit that this rum from Dictador appeals to me 👍

Tasted during a blind tasting. The nose is absolutely dominated by a walnut aroma. Slightly burnt coffee. Almost no alcohol detectable. On the palate it alternates cyclically between sweet and dry/slightly astringent. The sweet part is "typically rummy." The drier part is intensely walnutty and roasted. Some wood. The nut aromas are so striking in comparison that I can't believe they occur naturally. Doesn't convince me.

Had a very nice Dictador tasting this Sunday and this is the first third of the six. This was a really nice surprise. A much netter rum than I expected, a nice complex rum with a hint of vanilla in the back. Very well balanced and a delight. Sweet but not too sweet unless you like dry or Agricole style rums. Price to quality is very good.

Dictador: a dishonest rum brand? An interview with Dictador's master blender (http://consulhonorariostuttgart.de/?q=de/destileria_colombiana) explains a lot. The fact is that Dictador has never used the solera system and buys in some of the light alcohols for its rums. The alcohol content may also not be correct, concealing a small amount of added sugar. Overall, not the best impression. Nevertheless, this rum is good. Not a trace of fruit, but a lot of roasted aromas plus nut, honey, coffee and chocolate, which I find very tasty. The rum is reasonably easy to drink, although it is a little rough and spicy on the finish. The bourbon barrel is definitely present.

Coffee, dark chocolate, nuts, vanilla, and roasted oak create a dark profile. The strong roasted aromas give it character. The finish feels slightly rough and somewhat alcoholic in places. Overall, though, a good rum that doesn’t quite offer the depth its price and presentation suggest.

Nice intense coffee notes and also dark chocolate. It tastes somewhat sweet but is not a sugar bomb. I find it well done for beginners and people who want to slowly wean themselves off sugar bombs.

8:Like the other rums in the range, the nose is marked by coffee, molasses and caramel. These are combined with a slight woodiness, reminiscent of maple syrup. This woodiness is well burnt, the caramel is quite dark, but it remains round, not sticky like charcoal. There's also a hint of roasted walnut, a slightly oxidized side. We take the roundness a step further with a brioche toasted with honey. With a little air, the nose becomes less sharp and even more mellow. The molasses is still there, but this time it's liquorice. 7,5:The palate is rather lighter and less thick than one might expect. It is totally faithful to the traditional Spanish style, with caramel, vanilla, toasted wood and tobacco. The coffee is more subdued this time. 7,5:The finish is also fairly typical, of medium intensity. The maple syrup, on the other hand, lingers on the palate. So, another typical Dictador...

It is pleasantly spicy on the nose with a woody chocolate note. On the palate, a strong roasted chocolate taste unfolds with coffee, nuts, and vanilla. It is not exactly cheap but worth every cent.

Amazing rum with warm flavors of roasted coffee and dark chocolate. Perfect match between nose and taste. A rum not too sweet and that keeps all its promises. This is exactly the kind of rum I appreciate.

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: The nose immediately shows the direction the rum takes. Clear coffee and mocha notes combine with dark chocolate, oak, vanilla, and caramel. A heavy, drinkable scent inviting long exploration. On the palate, the rum is quite sweet at first with chocolate, toffee, mocha, and coffee notes. There is also some spice. The finish is a bit too short for me and the flavors fade relatively quickly. Also, the 40% ABV leaves the rum somewhat watery. The rum is an easy sipper if you like the described flavor notes. It drinks easily and the alcohol is barely noticeable. I'd like to drink it with 2-5% more alcohol. A great sweet rum "without sugar." Personally, I prefer the Insolent and also the 20-year-old a bit more. I wouldn't spend 70-80 euros on this one personally.

Caramel, walnut, coffee peanut, raisin Flavor: Not much different from the aroma. Compared to the previous Solera XO class of sweetened lons, it feels lighter and fresher. Overall, it's okay, but it's a shame that it has a rotten almond-like smell that lingers for a long time. Finish: Dominant walnut ice cream flavor

The Dictador XO is a very interesting soft rum. Reminds me of a vanilla cappuccino, although I am a ristretto lover. Maybe I miss a bit of depth. But the overall impression is really good.

Dictador Aurum – 40% End of the event, hypoglycemia in progress... and instead of a coke, here I am in front of the Dictador stand. Change of plan: a shot to get back on track! The Dictador XO Aurum is a Colombian rum produced from cane honey, aged in American oak barrels that previously held Bourbon, then finished in sherry casks. Sweet on vanilla, it's not very complex, but less bad than expected. Mission “recovery” accomplished, no need to try everything!

On The Rocks: On the nose rich sweetness with butterscotch/caramel and some underlying brown sugar with spices and oak. Taste is very smooth and mellow with mild sweetness, oak and spices with a light burn. Finish is medium with a sweetness fading into a light bitterness. It does not taste like it smelled. Might need more time to breath. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose has Microwaved Maple Bacon and the taste is very smooth and sweet. It actually tastes a little better mixed then on the rocks. This might change once the bottle has time to breath.
