Cadenhead's Rockley Green Label 1986
"Muss 30 min im Glas atmen. Dann geht es los," as one member puts it — give it time and you get honey, honeycomb, smoke and a resinous, pine-forest edge, with overripe mango and vanilla underneath. That classic Rockley profile at a gentle 46%, dry on the palate with real cask tannins for its age. A few note the finish fades quicker than they'd like.

How does Cadenhead's Rockley Green Label 1986 taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Honey, smoke and wax Rockley at easy strength A widely loved old-school Rockley — honey, wax and smoke that carry surprisingly well at 46%. Most agree the lower proof costs a touch of intensity and the finish runs short.

The dilution suits the rum very well. The complexity is still strongly present. According to the profile, it is a wonderful play of aromas and flavors. Acidity, sweetness, a bit smoky. Also, the play changes in the mouth. Simply a great profile. A few more proof points wouldn't have hurt. Still, a rum that gives me a lot of pleasure.

Part 4/8 of our 1986 Rockley tasting: wow! Saffron! incredibly intense both on the nose and the palate! Really nice thick, creamy and oily. Papaya meets mint, meets allspice meets banana and finally kumquat marmalade with fresh vanilla seeds. Saffron honey! awesome stuff! incredibly smooth and yet complex enough and not gone as quickly as often with cask strength. In short: the best Rockley 86 cask strength!🤤🇧🇧

I'm not such a big Barbados rum fan, but this Rockley picks me up again. This smoky, resinous honey note with a scent of acacia wood is very special and unique. The low ABV is hardly noticeable here. Excellent, if it weren't for the relatively short finish. Unfortunately, this costs it a few points

Impressive how the Rockley profile delivers here at "only" 46%. A bit rounder and sweeter than the 15-year release. Honey, tropical fruits, woody aromas, vanilla, smoke. Another proof of what great rums Cadenheads bottled back then.
Review by mto75
Very nice Rockley nose with dried herbs, essential oil and honeycomb. On the palate resin, honey, spicy-peppery. Old cask on the finish. The low ABV is not disturbing here at all. Many thanks to Josip for the sample!

Rockley Tasting 1986/87/2000 A bit more complex and sweeter than the 15-year version. Retasting from Alex’s set. Absolute bomb with lots of beeswax, honey, and wood. Well-integrated alcohol with nice complexity.

Third and last addition from the weekend. A great rum. Very honey-heavy on the nose but also very smoky. Honey and smoke are also recognizable on the palate, also a slight spice, especially vanilla.
Review by Joachim Guger
Strong, balanced and nicely merged. Dominated by honey and smoke. Behind that then tropical fruits, freshness or mint and some vanilla. Dusty dresser also present. In the mouth it continues similarly, now strong citrus aromas. Nice, long finish. Slightly spicy and lots of honey. Strange plastic notes (good plastic!) complement. A tasty Rockley. 🤩

Actually, I'm not really a Rockley fanboy, but with this one I changed my mind. This bottling is so convincing despite the low ABV. Really a great drop, thanks to Alex_Kunath for the split.

Unadulterated, just as it should be. Slightly less sweetness than comparable Bristol with Sherry and Madeira finish.
Review by Skyfly
Probably the best Green Label of the series! Despite its dilution, it only slightly lags behind other 86er Rockleys. The offered flavor spectrum is first-class. Especially the honey stands out compared to other 86er Rockleys.

Cadenhead‘s 18y @46%: while the low ABV becomes very apparent side-by-side with the FP bottlings, this bottling can comfortably stand on its own. This delivers the Rockley profile with a lot of complexity and intensity as well. On the nose this is much more approachable, yet intense. On the palate it does lose a bit based on the dilution but the Cadenhead‘s is a good way to experience this style of rum in an easy going way overall. Rendsburger 18y FP: Very intense and more lively compared to its older brothers. While the high ABV provides an excellent oily texture and complexity on the palate, it is a bit sharp on the nose. Here the profile is still very nice, but a bit too alcohol forwards for an even higher score. Silver Seal 33y FP: on the nose this one leaves a rather closed up impression (comparatively). While I get all Rockley markers, the SS somewhat lacks intensity. Much more intensity on the palate! Compared to the 18y (obviously) much more mature with additional wood and depth. Excellent! Rum Artesanal & Nobilis 34y FP: now this is top notch territory! Rich, intense and complex both on the nose and palate. On the nose the Nobilis has a hint more fruits, while the RA has some additional candied herbs. On the palate the RA comes with a bit more wood as well as sweetness, while the Nobilis again feels more fruity and a bit „lighter“. Today the RA takes the crown for me, but this might as well be the other way round in the next session.

Despite dilution, really a great piece. Honey, wax comb, smoke, fermented fruits, banana, papaya, mango, wood, a bit of mint. Everything is there. Comes through much more than you would expect at this dilution. On the palate then not quite up to the nose, still great cinema.

At first, the smell disillusioned me. Honey? First of all, no trace. The rum shows first of all a surprisingly large number of barrel notes for its young age and immediately afterwards an acidic fruitiness, which I would have spontaneously pushed in the direction of quince. In the background, a light, vanilla-like sweetness with some smoke joins in. Overall, I don't quite like this at first and it's a far cry from what I've appreciated about Rockley so far. After half an hour, however, things look completely different and it's always worth mentioning at this point how much a rum can change and how much patience can reward you. Honey and overripe mango now dominate the attack hand in hand, and in a very good balance. It's not as brute as certain Bechmark Rockleys, but it's definitely enough to convey what Rockley can do in general. Overall, there's just a lot of sweetness coming across, and the vanilla, which by now reveals itself to be intense bourbon vanilla, again reinforces that impression. There is also resin, pine needles and pine cones. Anyway, I've always found that parts of the aroma reminds me of things that come from a fir forest. The whole thing is rounded out by the fine smoke, which just fits incredibly well into this sweet construct of honey, fruitiness and sweetness. Anyone who has ever had a very good Penicillin cocktail knows what I'm talking about.Taste-wise, I'm pleasantly surprised. The rum has hardly any of the sweetness, which it still had in the nose, but is pleasantly mouth-filling for its 46% and does not necessarily make a strongly diluted impression. The rum is, however, rather on the tart side, sweetness I take as already mentioned only discreetly and also only at the beginning. Also seems to be from the fruitiness of the mango still hardly what there. The honey sweetness has rather transformed into beeswax and very dominant now spread resin, pine needle, bitterness and tannins from the barrel. The latter is surprisingly glaringly present for this age. Not that it becomes too distracting, but the barrel definitely says hello

Best nose, intensive out of WIRD86 that I have tasted. Sooo mild, that even all the tastes are mild and not so extensive.

Very good Rockley at a relaxed drinking strength.

Diamond Advent Calendar 2024. After a quarter of a year, I return to this piece again, this time during my private unicorn night. The nose is clearly Rockley, but in direct comparison with its colleague bottled in Plantation's Extreme 5, less pronounced. The taste is also pleasant but unnecessarily thin. I'll deduct a few points, although it's a very nice rum!

Relatively light in the glass for an 18-year-old. On the nose you notice the restrained 46% but it doesn’t come across negatively at all. Notes of roasted aromas, beeswax and light vanilla. On the palate a pleasant sweetness combined with typical spicy aromas of allspice and wood. An incredible honey note spreads in the mouth - unfortunately it doesn’t last very long.

Superb tasting from another time, a honeyed side, licorice, then a nose that evolves a lot on smokier notes, a quite esterified side, and at the same time a slightly sweet roundness, with plenty of black fruits. Palate more metallic, slightly burnt notes, and those black fruits. A very beautiful rum moment!

Needs 30 minutes to breathe in the glass. Then it starts. Smoke, honey, freshness, a bit of mint. Simply top. The 46% give the rum a nice lightness. Nicely dry and long in the mouth. After several rounds of over 60% rums tried, it doesn't bother. Simply delicious. Legend.

A beautiful Rockley with a very successful drinking strength. A certain old school character accompanies the entire taste. It just makes fun!

A gentler sample full of spices, mainly clove and fruit, especially pineapple.
