Most tasters call this near-perfect: a tropically-aged Uitvlugt with warm, well-buried glue, pipe tobacco, raisins, dates and creme brulee, plus old wood and orange peel on a finish that just keeps going. It's a column-still Demerara that reads light yet intense and remarkably balanced. A couple of drinkers found more alcohol bite and less fruit than the hype suggests.

For me, the spearhead of tropical aged Demeraras. The nose greets you very warmly and composed. Wonderfully integrated glue. Fresh, aromatic, and warm pipe tobacco. Loads of sugary sweet raisins, dried dates, and coconut oil. The sweetness is also complemented by Demerara sugar, caramel, and crème brûlée. Very nicely integrated old wood. Everything has a very heavy depth and is incredibly balanced. On the palate, very composed. Lots of old wood, polish, dried fruits, orange peels, and a very nice natural sweetness. There's practically no bitterness here, and the alcohol is excellently integrated. Even though overall, and especially with Demerara rum, I tend to lean more continental, this rum is an absolute masterpiece for me.

Very, very few bottles of this demerara masterpiece! A poem! Rich, intense full of fragrance! The rum is dense, concentrated and all its aromas stick in your mouth! The best uitvlugt ever tasted so far!

26.11.2025 Retasting and still an excellent rum and my final sample. ---------- This is an absolute highlight. One of the best Demerara I've tried so far. Strong flavours from pouring and while resting I could pick up the nose from my couch. Intense, oily and well balanced from start to finish. Love it and would love a bottle, but that would be extremely expensive. The empty glass is an absolute wonder of the world after an hour. The price tag on this bottle was very low at release and it has gon up by a factor of at least 50x

97 points? Same peffection as Skeldon 78? Come on, no way. Way far from that. Good, but more alcohol taste and less wood/nutz/fruity/blossom taste. EDIT - I have the opportunity to taste Uitvlugt 1988 three times for now. Three different times, three different samples. And I just need to confirm my first rating. There are much better old Velier Demeraras because U88 got so big sharp alcoholic taste ... Stare Velier Demerara rumy je to nejlepsi, co v rumovem svete muzete ochutnat. Rumy zraly spise omylem nekolik let v tropech a nikdo obsah sudu nedoplnoval. Andelska dan byla 90% a vice, proto je chut obzvlaste plna a intenzivni. I kdyz se jedna o extra drahou zalezitost, doporucu alespon jednou v zivote ochutnat rum z teto serie.

Sûrement la huitième merveille du monde (et la première liquide !). Le nez est absolument fantastique, extrêmement complexe et élégant, explorant une multitude d’arômes : d’abord très gourmand sur le caramel au beurre, la mélasse et la pâtisserie, il prend des accents plus sombres sur le tabac, le toast et la noix de coco, puis gagne en profondeur sur le chocolat au lait, les épices (vanille, piment, cannelle, muscade, réglisse) et le boisé fin, légèrement vernis et qui sublime les narines. Des fruits (dattes, fruits secs et exotiques) ajoutent ce brin de complexité qui laisse sans voix, de la pure magie olfactive. La bouche est titanesque, avec une profondeur et un spectre aromatique comme rarement dégustés. C’est un concentré de Demerara à l’état pur : café, chocolat au lait, caramel cuit, toffee, mélasse, tabac, cuir, fruits secs et noix de coco se déversent en bouche avec grâce, élégance et en parfaite harmonie. La texture est huileuse, chaude et intense, le boisé est puissant, sombre et fondu à la perfection. Les épices sont toujours aussi soyeuses, mais accompagnée par une touche carnée, voir goudronnée, totalement inattendue. Un profil à la fois gourmand, puissant et superbement raffiné, du grand cinéma. L’alcool est superbement intégré. La finale est éternellement longue, sèche, plus corsée mais tout aussi délicate. Le chocolat avec des zestes d’orange ressort, ainsi que beaucoup d’arômes sombres comme le café, le cuir, le chêne toasté, le tabac, le caramel chaud, la mélasse et les épices (piment, cannelle). Quelques notes de pruneaux et d’huile de coco arrondissent le tout. C’est une véritable légende liquide, le temps s’arrête et les arômes s’expriment pour délivrer le spectacle d’une vie. Un Super-Demerara, au-dessus du lot, même des Uitvlugts 1996 et 1997 que je considérais comme mes références en la matière.

Super geiles konzentriertes Gerät. Dunkle Schokolade, Himbeer, brombeere, Orangen-Karamell und Alkohol perfekt integriert. Könnte ein perfekter easy sipper sein wenn der Preis nicht wäre. Unfassbar geiles Teil!

Uiii was eine Ehre diesen Rum verkosten zu dürfen. Ein sehr eleganter Rum der schon fast zu rund ist. Eine leichte Süße, ein Hauch von Marzipan, Vanille, Tabak und leichte Trockenfrüchte. Ein wirklich schöner Rum. Der Preis ist leider absurd.

Never had so many tags chosen in the app to describe a rum. This is the top premier cru pinot noir from Burgundy of rum. Light (column still) but extremely complex, perfect balance on both nose and palate. Yellow fruits, nuts, caramel, floral notes, smooth and elegant. A wide range of all different flavors orchestrated to perfection. Why not 10.0 points? Maybe, but I am the cabernet guy, not the pinot noir fan. Fantastic rum thought!

What a pleasure. For me a new top rating. Already on the nose everything is very balanced with all kinds of caramelized fruits. On the palate extremely balanced with a bit of everything. Fruits, some wood, minimal bitterness and yet slightly sweet. The finish stays and stays.
