You don't taste this easily. At 84.5% it's worth trying just for the sensation of something evaporating from your tongue. Potent funky, makes a surprisingly good day if you use only a shot.

Caribbean vacation September 2026. Pub 2 Bros Beach Shop on St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Then a heavy one we drank on the beach. Was okay anyway, despite the 85%. Mitch however spat in the ocean :-)

Have an unopened bottle myself, but was offered a cup on a catamaran tour in St. Vincent recently. Sunset Very Strong Rum is molasses based, fermented for about 36 hours and distilled in a double column still at 95%. It’s bottled at 84.5% free of any additions, just some water. The nose is fruity, spicy and creamy with scents of coconut, cocoa, butter, toffee, vanilla, licorice, mint and grapefruit. At the palate it’s hot, spicy, oily, sweet, salty and nutty with flavors of coconut, toffee, cacao, mint, peanut, grapefruit and pepper. The finish is rather long, dry, spicy and oily with flavors of peppers and chili. If you can handle high ABV you should taste it and it will probably do very well as a mixer if you find to strong to drink neat.

A historic evening with original period samples of rums from the 60s and 70s from Pavel Špaček on 17.2.2025. The crate of samples arrived from a collector in France and can only surprise us. There are five of us, so we'll see.
