Foursquare ECS XII Nobiliary 2005
"Powerful, decadent," as one taster put it — this Foursquare leans into coconut, vanilla, caramel and crème brûlée, then turns woody and roasted with dark chocolate and dried apricot. At 62% the alcohol sits surprisingly well, though a few add a drop of water. Several call it their favorite ECS; a couple just find it classic Foursquare, nothing new.
- Well balanced
- Integrated alcohol
- Roasted chocolate finish

How does Foursquare ECS XII Nobiliary 2005 taste?
Aggregated from 170 community reviews.
Woody, decadent Bajan from ex-bourbon casks A favorite across the ECS range for many — balanced, spicy and woody with pastry-like sweetness. A handful find it conservative and very on-brand, but almost nobody dislikes it.

Yummy 😋😋 This rum is really really good. So happy that I got a bottle of this one before getting too hard to get hold of. - Got a taste of Timpas bottle today and just have to bump it one point. - Just got to taste it against the Plenipotenziario and the Destino. It beats the Pleni, but not the Destino. So in total it’s the second best Fouraquare of all time for me. - 3 years simce last time. Still fabulous but has to lower it .1 as I suspect is been oxidized a bit. - Just outstanding. - 250912: Long time no see. This is really really good.

10.11.2025 Finishing my last sample of this nice release, next time I will have to open my bottle. --------------- Sitting here and writing the last of the 4 tastings we did yesterday I now know why I got tipsy. 4 very good Foursquare that you have to double check will work its magic. The nose has tropical fruits and vanilla to it and then some wonderful barrel. The palate is a bit less fruity than the nose but it is wonderfully complex and balanced with spices and chocolate. The roasted oak complements the overall experience. Swishing it in the glass it draws nice curtains. The finish is very long with nuts/fruits and roasted barrel.

Wow. It is the greediness has the raw state! Well balanced, we are directly alpaguered by a huge pastry side (Crème brûler / Butterscotch / Cake / Vanilla / Chocolate / Brown sugar), it is very fat (Coconut / Walnut / Butter), we have some red fruits well sweetened this strolling in the mouth with their friends the dried fruits (Dried Apricots / Prunes). The woody is fine and greedy too and comes to structure this mouth with a touch of cooking and a slightly toasted side (Roasted coconut). A real cake this rum with power and a good grip in mouth, a killer!

Coconut, vanilla, dried fruit, roasted nuts, chocolate, wood and a subtle sweetness are perceptible. The taste is also dominated by wood, chocolate, spices, coconut and caramel. For me, this is one of the best FS bottlings. Edit: Had the edge in crosstasting with the Isonomy, Redoutable, Covenant.

Intense flavor for unparalleled pleasure. A rum of excellence. It stands out from a Foursquare 2010, not least because of its gourmet taste.

A peak of maturity between fruit, wood, fat and spices, with the power and concentration of traditional English rums. Very gourmand and elegant.

Very, very tasty Barbados. Even if the profile is generally not my favorite. However, simply really tasty (women's rum?). After trying it again and again, I used it as a comparison for all Foursquare tastings. No one has beaten it yet.

Really fun to taste. It is milder than the 2007 and thus also more drinkable although the 62% I can take larger sips than with the 2007. As with all ex bourbon aged Rume you notice the ex bourbon barrel. I love that.

Clearly one of the best bottlings on Foursquare. The nose is elegant and sophisticated, with exotic fruits, dried fruits, spices, wood and strong roasted notes that go as far as burnt sugar. There's a fresh aroma reminiscent of cold tobacco that adds complexity to a Bajan style often criticized for its similarities between bottlings. It's original and well executed. On the palate, there's an intense perfume carried by spices, noble wood, but also dark chocolate, caramel and vanilla that add roundness. There's a toasty sensation that goes hand in hand with a warmth that embellishes the rum and incenses the palate. The alcohol is very well integrated. The rum is balanced, delicate and exuberant. The finish is long, balanced and elegant, traveling through aromas of tobacco and bourbon, sweet spices, dried fruit and roasted notes. Wood, toffee and chocolate add further indulgence. A very good Foursquare with a winning combo of elegance, complexity and expression.

8,8:On the nose, glue, allspice, roasted wood with leather, caramel, crème brûlée, pastry, roasted nuts, smoky, toasted coconut, citrus fruits and prunes, flowery, herbaceous molasses, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, dried apricots and yellow fruits are in the play, burnt sugar and candied molasses. 8,9:On the palate, the attack is delicious, full-bodied, creamy and oily with caramelized roasted oak and pastry, gingerbread, almonds, leather and vanilla, when the rum is well oxidized, cream toffee and dark chocolate join, fruity with tropical fruits like pineapple, banana, toasted coconut, dried apricots and raisins, citrus fruits. 8,8:The finish is long, dry, slightly metallic, bourbon barrel impact is noticable, with toasted oak, notes like fruitcake, pastry, dark chocolate, leather, nutty, smooth with vanilla, fruity with toasted coconut and pineapple, the molasses is candied, dark with licorice and earthy with tobacco, some fresh air brings hints of tea.

Edit: the more I try it, the better it tastes to me. My favorite of the ECS now Another very tasty bottling. It's a little stronger than some other ECS. Very good, the typical Foursquare notes are clearly recognizable.

Coconut, cocoa powder, hot chocolate... Light spices, fruit, orange clearly (odd that no one mentions it). Alcohol a little present, but also a smooth, creamy rum. I like it a lot, perhaps my best foursquare. Less on the heavy spices, and a little fruitier. Long finish with a lingering hint of spiciness.

Verdict: a nice complex rum, although not the most outspoken. It's balanced, not too sweet and greatly spicy and woody. 85 points Nose: coconut, light esters, red fruit, cinnamon and other baking spices, wood, orange, coconut and vanilla. Palate: Oily and woody, lovely level of spice that gives a little tannic touch. Pepper and ginger, cinnamon, clove, even a bit of pine resin. Light glue, orange zest, syrup, leather, wood, tobacco, candied cherry. Finish: long, sweet-spicy and a little acidic. It's mainly a continuation of the nose.

The best bottling compared to ECS X and XI. In addition to vanilla and coconut, the dried fruit is much more present here. This rum is also more complex in terms of sweetness, with caramel, creme brulee and burnt sugar. Dark chocolate is also added on the palate - simply delicious!

Comparing with ECS 2008, less intense but finer. Besides the usual coconut vanilla carmel mix i get some salty roasted nuts and a nice barrel touch, reminds me a bit of Shibboleth, though haven't compared them side by side yet.

Still the powerhouse among the ECS.
Review by Jussi Piirainen
On the nose: Woody barrel notes with vanilla dominate the profile. Toasted and nutty. Coconut and dried fruits are in the background. Hints of sweetness caramel notes. Taste: Intense. Woody, roasted notes. Spices. Then you get darker notes like chocolate and light coffee. Mouthfeel chances to a little lighter and oily. Finish: Woody, roasted, oak and leather. Little bit of dark chocolate in the background. Vanilla. Heavy bourbon barrel notes from start to finish and still offering rich palate at same time.

The Exceptional Cask Selection is always a safe bet when it comes to very good Barbados rum. I have not yet encountered any failures, especially with the pure bourbon cask maturations. This bottling has the typical Foursquare characteristics with a slightly lighter fruity character than I am used to and a long, toasty finish, which I find particularly successful.
