Depaz Cuvée Prestige

Yellow fruit up front — apricot, fresh grapes, peach — with vanilla sitting back and a wave of spice and light tobacco underneath. This 11-year Depaz agricole drinks smooth, almost honeyed, yet finishes drier than the sweet nose suggests. One taster called it "smooth and truly magnificent"; a couple noted a menthol edge and warm, fairly short finish. Elegant, cane-driven Martinique sipping.

Elegant aged agricole, fruit over old wood Most find it elegant and smooth, full of grape, peach and vanilla with a spicy, nutty finish. A few say the nose oversells the sweetness and it turns warm and menthol-tinged.

As a summary this is a very smooth and truly magnificent Rhum with scents and flavors of fruits, spices, oak, sugarcane and some hints of tobacco. It’s an older version of the Cuvée Prestige now sold in the blue wooden box.

We tried this one as a blind tasting - and it’s very convincing. Nice nose, quite rich - but the taste / attack is very smooth, almost honeyed, but without the sugar taste - silky aftertaste. The value for money is quite remarkable

I was very excited. But compared to the standard xo there are then but clear differences:nose has more especially yellow fruit, vanilla rather in the background. On the palate then comes through the spice. There is some tobacco, we have a nice peach note and some citrus.Very elegant the whole with a slightly nutty finish. This is how I imagine a cuvée to be. Strong.👍

Depaz

Avg Rating 8.1/10 over 140 Rums

Depaz is the rum born from a volcano. After Mount Pelee wiped out Saint-Pierre and his entire family in 1902, the orphaned Victor Depaz came back and planted cane on the very slopes that had killed them. The distillery he built in 1917 still stands at the foot of the volcano, and its agricole is among the most decorated on Martinique.
