Nine Leaves Almost Spring Cabernet Sauvignon Cask
Grape, sake and a fermented, wine-cask edge give this young Japanese pot-still rum a genuinely unusual profile — closer to grappa or even cognac than to typical rum. It's dry, lively and a touch warm at 48%, with a little sweet grape but short on the palate. Several tasters found it interesting yet lacking real character, needing time in the glass to open up.

How does Nine Leaves Almost Spring Cabernet Sauvignon Cask taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Dry, unusual sake-and-grape wine-cask rum Divisive and unusual — some love the sake-grappa oddness, others find it dry, hot and thin on character, with a short finish. The Cabernet cask splits opinion.

Actually good approaches. But too little of everything. And I find these Sauvignon finishes generally weak.

Rather nice. Pleasant nose. Classic, honey. « Nappant », quite « vif » on the attack, a bit on the sugary end without being pastry like. Overall nice but lacks a bit of character Tried again - with the closure of the distillery - thought it would be nice to revisit and same overall comment. Nice but not great

It doesn't make sense, between sake and cognac, But that doesn't mean it's bad, it's confusing. On the other hand, it's very short on the palate and quite strong. To sum up, my tasting notes: Nose: Sake, Woody, Fermented, Nougat On the palate: Malt, Sake, Dry, Alcoholic, Fermented, Warm Finish: Cognac, Salty, Woody

in the second attempt it works better and from the initially too pure seeming rum still a lot comes out. definitely needs some time, then certainly a pleasure.

Light nose, more alcoholic. Lively rum on the palate, pleasant. Sweet fruit, I find a bit of grape. Fairly long finish but a bit too bitter for my taste. Lacks a bit of character for me. (Tasted after the Nine Leaves Clear which I preferred.)

Interesting rum, has something of grappa and can also be well drunk after a meal.

I rate it 7.4 out of 10, a solid rum that doesn't disappoint.
