Here's the surprise: at 49.2% this drinks softer than the number suggests, with the alcohol so well tucked in that several tasters call it easy. It's a molasses-and-cane-juice Guadeloupe blend from Velier — fresh grassy and hay notes, peach and citrus, clove and pepper, with a honey or maple sweetness. Elegant and rounded, though a few find it a touch thin and light on complexity.

Wonderfully fresh grassy notes meet fruit, nougat sweetness and spice. Thanks to the reduced strength almost to be called easy sipper, but this would not quite do justice to the rum, because the distillate remains aromatically alive and knows to show diverse new nuances. A very successful rum.

In my mind slightly better than its older brother. Light and a little one dimensional. Thinwith some anise on the finish. It’s good but doesn’t really set me alight. Spice, hay, some complex nutty spice. Comes together well but doesn’t quite set me alight with desire to hunt it out. More subtle and refined than many, solid but not remarkable

This rum is lightly dry and has a long finish. Fruity with spices and it has a herbal touch with honey to it. Very well balanced and complex. A lovely rum and a very good buy in my mind.

This rum needed its time in the glass, but then it was very pleasing. Fruity and herbal on the nose, also very spicy, which continues on the palate, pepper is recognizable, also slightly herbal and woody.

Very elegant and pleasant rum, this one..the nose is very fruity, with peaches upfront, a touch of floral and herbal and some light spices to it..the wood is just a hint in the background. The palate il a little bit sweeter, with those peaches that become to me as syrup-y. As time goes by, the wood influence is more present, giving a spicier rum. I really would have taste this one in comparison with the 1995, but it took me almost 2 hours to prepare the samples xD..guess I’ll do it another time :D

Delicious drop, with grassy notes, more like hay. Plus citrus fruits and spice. Pleasant sweetness of honey or maple syrup on the nose and palate. But despite everything, a few more percent would do it good.

A vegetal nose with mint and bitter herbs. A touch of sweetness, but also light earth, young wood (walnut) and floral honey. The attack on the palate is soft, as if diluted. The alcohol is present but not aggressive. The aromas are discreet but delicious. Figs, herbaceous notes, flaky pastry with honey, but very little complexity. The finish is surprisingly long, on fig. In the empty glass, we smell young, rough-sawn wood and bitter herbs. A rum a little weak in expressiveness, but very well made with perfect drinkability.

So if I wasn't sure until now what to imagine under the term grassy notes, now I know. And it's very pleasant. In the nose, floral with fruit, on the palate there's freshly cut grass that stays even in the finish. Could have been diluted with melna.

Direct comparison with the Basseterre 1995. Both have a similar profile, but the 1995 has clearly more power and thus brings more depth. The 97, with its lower alcohol content, already has a slightly watery mouthfeel on the finish. Without a direct comparison, I probably wouldn’t have noticed it so strongly, because the 97 is still a well-rounded thing. Slightly fruitier than the 95. The 95 brings a full load of spices alongside the fruits. Also noticeably more woody notes, especially on the long finish. Both nice bottlings, but the 95 does everything a bit better.

It's smooth! The nose is very soft with vegetal notes. On the palate, the alcohol is very well integrated without bite! You find the honey herbal side. A beautiful finish full of freshness. Very pretty rum!!

A bit ethereal, raw hard wood type walnut, quite soft attack, alcohol almost too integrated, figs, dates, Moroccan honey pastry, nice but lacks a bit of character.
