03.12.2008 Relaxing with a few clients and a few bottles. Notes Medium dark colour. Nose Fresh, light, light wood, faint roasted, fruity, banana, faint marzipan, light nutts. Palate Light, light wood, fruity, pineapple, light nutts, faint licorice, light marzipan, light coffee. Finish Medium long, wood, fruits, light coffee, anise, light roasted.

Tropical fruits too ripe on the first nose, then quite present cedar wood and marzipan for sweetness. The first palate is soft, then develops an unpleasant soapy taste of laundry powder. The finish is short, always with this aftertaste. Reading other reviews and discussing, it is probably contamination, maybe because my sample is old and almost empty.

My first old Long Pond. An exciting nose that mixes plenty of fruit with a variety of spices, a little wood in between and everything is very harmonious. Less fruit on the palate, but very nutty, dry and spicy. Somehow a little reminiscent of Christmas. A great wine, only the dilution is a bit of a shame, although it is less disturbing than the majority. The dry finish lingers in the mouth forever and reminds you of this delicious drop!

After a long time very contradictory long pond. In aroma beauty, fruit, wood, flowers. In the taste all this remains, but the whole thing is terribly thin. It could do with at least 10-15% higher abv and it would be great.

Still quite fruity and complex on the nose, dominant woody-spicy notes emerge on the palate, which evoke a few faint associations with Worthy Park and Port Mourant. I like the tropically aged Long Ponds better - a good rum, but one that I don't consider to be of the highest caliber.
