Caramel, vanilla and a curl of smoky wood over dried fruit — a soft Venezuelan solera that most people find round and easy. Several call it well balanced and less sweet than typical rons, though just as many find it a bit bland with a short finish and a whiff of alcohol. A comfortable everyday pour, not one to dissect.

A very nice and totally balanced solera rum that, unlike its competitors in the solera sector, has been sweetened only slightly to not at all. Santa Teresa thus shows how good a natural solera rum can taste. For me, one of the best Soleras, especially for the price. From the smell an insanely interesting rum, which is super round and balanced in the taste, but not quite as diverse there. Still, the taste is very balanced with facets of caramel and vanilla. It remains a pleasantly warm finish.

This rum is a typical representative of the Spanish Roms. The Solera process blurs all edges and corners. What remains is a "Feierabendrum" which is very pleasing but also offers very little to discover. Not necessarily my case. On a positive note, it is not advertised with age statements of the "2 teaspoons" of the oldest portion in the solera system.

One of the better Spanish styled “Ron”. It’s well balanced, smooth and not as sweet as most of the “Ron’s”. The nose is fruity and smoky as well as at the palate together with vanilla. Unfortunately is the finish much too short.

Shop visit Rum Paradise Hamburg April 2025. It's nothing more than an average rum. Vanilla, caramel, and chocolate on the nose. On the palate also caramel and vanilla, but very alcoholic, solvent can be tasted.

I absolutely love this Ron. one of my all time favorite in the Hispanic style. sweet, loads of magnificently put caramel and vanilla. still, it has this smoky wood taste which enhances everything. ideal for novice Rum afficionados.

Not a fan of this. Spicy but in a way that goes against its best use as an easy sipper. Reminds me a lot of some of the more mediocre Dominicans. It’s a shame because I really like rons for easy sipping while doing something else but Venezuela continues to not impress me in this category.

One of the first rums I bought and tasted. It's not my favorite rum, but you can recognize that, for a rum of Spanish tradition, it is far from being too sweet and is rather well balanced. Quite an easy rum to drink and well suited for starting out in the world of rum.

Santa Teresa 1796 is a true solera rum from Venezuela. So it's a molasses rum at 40%. It's a rum obtained by a constant blend of young (from 4 years) and old rum (up to 35 years). Combination of column-distilled and pot still-distilled rums. All this work makes this rum without too much sweetness in the mouth (the big problem generally with rums). Very well balanced rum, controlled woodiness, a nice touch of spices. It's top 👍 And a long finish (despite being only 40%) and dry on vanilla. Beautiful rum with a normal price, a must-have in your cellar.

My RumRatings review from 6 years ago: The dark brown rum presents classic rum notes on the nose. Tropical fruits and wood can be discovered. But you really have to stick your nose deep into the glass. On the palate, the rum is sweet with vanilla aromas and again tropical fruits. Wood notes nestle in, and the at least partially long aging and the Limousin cask are definitely noticeable. Before the finish, the alcohol becomes a bit too present and it gets sharp on the finish, which is accompanied by sweet cask notes. On first tasting, the Santa Teresa was tasty but a bit boring compared to other rums, as it lacks a certain spice. I also don't find deeper complexity. Over time, I have come to appreciate the rum more because it is not too demanding and good for tired evenings. One of the better soleras!

Less sweet than I expected for a soleira Spanish rum... nice fruity bouquet on the nose, but somewhat disappointing on the palate. Unfortunately, a certain alcoholic sharpness dominates the finish... without that, the rum could easily get 10 points more in this price category.

Smokey caramel nose. Fairly sweet with an alcoholic undertone, caramel and malty spicy finish. Enjoyable sipper but the finish is not quite as polished as would have liked. Good cigar rum but not quite to my tastes to really get top marks

Wow what a cost for this... It has the taste of the expensive rum but at a value cost in the UK.... Gobsmacked at how cheap foe a decent rum This is clearly a dosed rum but is definitely a gateway must try . Nosing Sweet cherry's, toffee, Tasting Sherry , molasses, cherry's returns

A rum made using the solera method with 40% from Venezuela. Distributed here in Germany by Bacardi GmbH from Hamburg. The nose is very subtle, the alcohol is at the forefront and loses the aromas on its way to the nose. Very faintly you can recognize honey and tobacco with a sweet plum note. The taste is very balanced and mild, mainly combining alcohol, wood, and honey. It is neither sweet nor dry. Conclusion: It's a bit too boring for me and I will use the rest of the bottle in mixed drinks.

Pleasant! Surprisingly brown sugar on the nose (along with other expected vanilla/tobacco notes), with a palate that follows through as inoffensively workable. Not complex, but showing up and bringing spice and a touch of dried fruit. Finish moderate and forgettable.
