Don't expect the soft, oily Demerara most people picture from Guyana — this Versailles pot still is rougher and drier than its 12 years suggest. Glue and ethanol lead the nose, then tropical fruit; the palate turns woody with green pepper and citrus. One taster found it "a bit too much paint stripper," while others liked the edge and light licorice-and-chocolate depth.

Finally more proof again, and the sweetness of the penultimate Kill Devil is gone too. Instead, we have a very medicinal rum on the nose, with noticeable glue but also some oak. On the palate, lots of tropical and citrus fruits, but still medicinal and slightly alcoholic.

14.09.2019 Super Kill Devil tasting at a local shop, that unfortunately is no more. Notes Light in colour. Nose Intense, light wood, roasted, glue, plum, dried fruit, light citrus. Palate Intense, warm, citrus, dried fruit, light glue, spice, light licorice, faint caramel, medium dry. Finish Long and warm, wood, light licorice, light caramel, roasted, medium dry, light vegetal.

It’s a fairly full on brash rum. Versailles pot still rum, a bit rougher than the 12 year old age statement would suggest. Nose is ethanol and glue scented, with second layer of tropical fruit. Mouth is rough and woody with green pepper notes - palate is not to my tastes a bit too much paint stripper and not enough complexity. Finish is medium long with a hint of burn and alcoholic ester note. Overall it’s one to get out for those who like something with a bit of edge but just doesn’t do it for me
