Velier Versailles VSG 1998
Collectors chasing the old Velier Demerara series are the real audience here — and even they call this one of the gentler drops. Burnt caramel and vanilla lead, then a dry cedar cigar-box note builds until it takes over the palate, closing on milk chocolate and nougat. At 46.5% it stays soft and round rather than explosive. Several tasters find it a touch sweet and light on complexity.</snapshot> <parameter name="review">Divides the faithful: some rate the cedar-and-chocolate finish superb, others find it flat and short on length. A softer, sweeter Velier Demerara, not the powerhouse of the range.

No Versailles. More in the direction of Blairmont. The first sample had a blatant soap impact.

Was very excited about this bottling and have often heard that this should be one of the worst Velier Demerara bottlings. The smell is immediately reminiscent of Versailles and is more than acceptable. Taste also Versailles and very pleasing in my opinion. However, it lacks complexity and length. However, absolutely not a bad rum and better than so many others.
Review by Jakob
Quite sweet and flat with a peculiar floral-nutty note that possibly indicates an oxidation influence in the sample. Either way, however, the base product remains a little too weak on the chest to impress.
