Damoiseau Rhum Vieux Agricole Guadeloupe 5 Ans d‘Age

6.3/10
34 community reviews ↓

Don't expect a big grassy agricole punch here — that's the surprise. The classic cane-juice character is faint, leaving tropical fruit, a little sugarcane sweetness and a brandy-like edge over wood. Several tasters call it thin and quite alcoholic, almost like a "mild schnapps." One reviewer found it interesting precisely because it reads halfway between molasses and agricole.

  • Easy drinking
  • Tropical fruit
  • Light agricole

7,8:On the nose, it delivers cottony notes of wood, very fatty peanuts and milk chocolate. It opens with a spicier note of biscuits, coffee and licorice. There is some medicinal touch and a hint of sugarcane. On aeration, an agricole with dried fruits and wood, we find this damp and cottony atmosphere again. We have peanuts, damp wood, oily cane, then the fatty and melted nuts. This is when the Guadeloupean style emerges, with candied fruits, banana is the most obvious, resinous and medicinal notes, as well as molasses. 8:On the palate, the attack is very smooth. There are some nuts, then herbaceous and medicinal flavors, licorice, molasses, coffee and resin, pairing agricultural profile made of cane, dried fruits (apricot) and tannins. 7,9:The finish is long, dry, an agricole side glows, woody and with dried fruits, spicy, the sugarcane is juicy, let's put it shortly, vegetal....

A young Agricole with a very fruity nose. But somehow that was it, because there are only various alcohol notes on the nose. In mouth very thin and weak. Some sweetness from the sugar cane, some fruit and brandy. Like a mild brandy.

I'm not enthusiastic about this rum... Not very complex and marked by the wood but not greedy... In short, it's not bad, but that's where it ends for me...

Of the typical Agricoletönen you notice quite little in the smell and in the taste they are weak. That's exactly why I like it. It tastes almost like a blend of molasses and agricole and that makes it exciting and complex. I can recommend it
