tastes somehow sweet, floral & sour like vinegar and Gewürztraminer, together with rubber bananas. Better than the Palmira in direct comparison, but still absolutely not my cup of tea and nothing I need to drink again. Sorry.

21.12.2025 Having a friend over who is not up to the heavier stuff, so we run through a few lighter rums. ---------- This is also a very sweet rum but it's really fruity. Using it for baking, ice cream and desserts.

Even though I’m not a fan of sweetened rum is this quite OK, maybe because it’s produced from sugar cane honey in pot stills and that that gives it another profile. Significant aromas and flavors is bananas, coconut and honey.

A very sweet, round rum. I like it a lot as a desert rum with the fam or friends(who aren’t used to the good stuff 😬). Pleasant through and through. Not complex in any way. Just smooth and pleasant. Sweet though, maybe to much in the long run.

The nose was rather appealing, with fruit, vanilla and almost Jamaica-style esters. But on the palate, it's a slightly peppery sugar stone. A touch of coffee too. Frankly, not crazy.

Pleasant nose with lots of fruit, sugar aromas, but also chocolate and roasted notes. On the palate, however, you are again overwhelmed by the sugar, although with some goodwill you can still mention roasted coconut and chocolate. At most middle-class and not really to be seen as rum. Super Premium Rum - none of these three words.

7,2:On the nose it is sweet with notes of vanilla, butterscotch toffee and maple syrup all bursting up. After the airing oak spice pushes through the toffee sweetness. There are other sweet notes of candied oranges and canned apricots. Coconut and some ripe banana finally appear. The nose notes are quite enticing, let 's see how this sweetness will play out through palate. 6,4:On the palate we catch some heated alcohol and wood spice. There is also some maple sweetness, quite tasty, but soon it overpowers the whole rum. There are peppery oak spice, maple, honey and apricot jam and pineapple.In the end, the rum becomes woody.The roundedness is almost gone here. When we put the rum in the fridge, the touch of sweetness abates and becomes more sippable. 6,6:The finish is sweet, quite rounded, probably due to added sweetness. Sweet butterscotch and maple combined with oak are quite tasty. Baking spice, honey and cinnamon linger on..

Excellent, palatable and very interesting rum. The longer you drink it, the more aromas it reveals. Sweet, fruity and spicy with a very interesting interplay of wood and roasted aromas. A very interesting interplay of aromas even after the glass is empty. For me a very good rum...exactly my taste!

A fruity sweet XO sugar bomb. Despite the enormous sugar addition, it is quite balanced and tasty. Honey, coconut, and banana shape the flavor profile. The finish is chocolaty but also a bit alcoholic.

My goodness, this is sweet! Really like syrup in the mouth. Crazy. On the nose it's still okay, you notice it's flavored: coconut, peach and cookie dough. Still alcoholic. On the palate, Christmas spices come in.

Relatively sweet. Very mild and balanced. Price performance in order. Tasted again after a long time. Unfortunately now much too sweet for my taste. In my opinion a great starter rum.

Let's say I'm not rating rum here, but a liqueur with rum flavors - then it's halfway tasty - I wouldn't pour it for myself now, but back then I thought it was cool. The combination of flavors is quite exciting: orange, vanilla, caramel, raisins and dough!

My RumRatings review from 6 years ago: In the glass, the rum is very creamy. Similar to a liqueur. On the nose, the sweetness is immediately dominant. Memories of the Danish bogeyman A.H. Riise come up. But there is more. Vanilla and fruit notes. If you let the rum sit, woody notes come in. On the palate, the rum is initially very sweet as expected. The influence of the sherry and port wine cask brings fruity, thick, and creamy sweetness. Vanilla, caramel, and a slight alcohol sharpness join in. The finish is quite long with a bit more cask notes like wood and vanilla, but it remains characteristically sweet. You can taste the rum surprisingly long after. Here, the Santos Dumont clearly scores points. Overall, the rum is more complex and full-bodied than expected after the first try. It's worth exploring a bit. Ideally as a fan of very sweet rums. Otherwise, it can become too easy to drink. Like for me. Way too sweet.

The least sweet SD. I don't recommend having it after such sweet bombs as Riise or other elixirs such as SD XO Elixir. Otherwise You might feel this is not so sweet but the truth is it is fairly sweet :D At least moderately sweet.

I like this one better than the Danish Navy range. Yes it's sweet and not very complex, but not as extremely sticky sweet as many other Riises and more balanced. I get caramel, nuts, cocoa and orange.

A very sweet rum, that’s oily, spicy and a bit flowery. Notes and aroma of vanilla, honey and cinnamon. More like a desert rum, but quite nice. Worth it? Yeah sure, if you get it for a nice price.

Interesting fruit notes. Especially pineapple. Disappears into nothing. Similar to sherry-cask whisky, only more piercing. However, the whole thing tastes quite unbalanced and somehow artificial. Didn't enjoy it on the second try either.

Rum ball in a glass, not recommended. Extremely artificial, flavored smell and taste. Has nothing to do with rum, belongs in sweets. Drinkable due to extreme sweetness, but quickly becomes unpleasant.

Read full review ›For the lover of sweet spirits, this will be a nice alternative to the classic A.H. Riise bottles. Both in taste and price. Santos Dumont XO combines Caribbean molasses and Brazilian cane juice. It's a sweet spirit, in an elegant bottle, that tastes of coconut, citrus, caramel, honey, vanilla. And the nice thing is that, despite the added sugar, you can taste the influence of sherry and port casks. No wonder that with a price tag of up to 50 € it is very popular in the sweet rum world.
