Note: Employment at Perola GmbH (spirits industry), partial professional involvement with evaluated bottlings. All reviews are my personal, unpaid opinion. Absolutely solid mixing Batavia arrack from Bali. Absolutely fairly priced at 20€ and exceptionally high quality compared to other 20€ rums. Top for daiquiri, mojito, etc.! Only the alcohol content could be a bit higher. Nice sweetness even though definitely unsweetened when measured.

On the nose ripe tropical fruit, flowers, spices, eucalyptus and a sour note on the finish. On the palate fruit(banana?) and dry spices, but without depth or character.

Fruity fruit, fresh and arracky. A lot going on here on the nose, as you would expect from Arrack. A little smoked bacon is also present. Surprisingly sweet on the palate, although unsweetened. Not expected but very fitting. Then very fresh, grassy and with the typical estery Arrack aromas. However, it somehow lacks tinder and pressure in terms of alcohol content. We'll see how it mixes, but I'm afraid it will be a little too flat. I'll update accordingly here. Addendum 1: Unfortunately, there is not much of the bacony arrack notes in the spiced version. Addendum 2: Super fruity in the mojito, harmonizes well with the mint

Nusa Cana: Indonesian rum blended in the Netherlands. Initially almost emptied into a planter (everything goes into a planter!). We tested it for science in Ti'Punch. Passable, but at 37.5%, not enough wattage and taste for a Ti'Punch. After half a sip in pure form, it was thrown onto the lawn. Had to keep the snails away from the salads, this should do the trick. 🤞

Read full review ›Considering the price, a decent product and aromatically superior to the bar standards from Puerto Rico and Cuba and I would always prefer the Nusa Caña. It goes very well in a mojito, for example.
