If you're curious about rum made outside the Caribbean, this Austrian bottling is an oddity worth a taste. Made from molasses at a fruit-brandy distillery, it drinks that way too — pear, plum and orange peel over caramel, with several tasters saying it reminds them more of grappa than rum. The rum is actually interesting especially on the nose! However, it is so sweetened! You don't get any cask influence at all...

As an Austrian, you also believe in the existence of a really good rum. I haven't found it yet. Although this one is better than Wieser. Both actually have very good spirits (e.g. gin, vodka or whisky). The rum doesn't convince me, I can't recognize any special note.

Since Farthofer makes good fruit brandies, I wanted to try the rum: it's not bad, but not very complex. The aroma is plum-like with pleasant sweetness. The finish remains unexciting and flat. Still: not bad! Only the price around 42 euros is too high: the optimal price-enjoyment ratio for me would be 30-34.-

We don't find it bad, it definitely has its use but in our opinion needs the right accompaniment. It sometimes reminds us more of Grappa than rum.

The Farthofer Organic Rum from Lower Austria is an exciting organic rum with a distinctive character. Dark fruits, caramel and chocolate meet pear must and fine roasted aromas. On the palate pleasantly sweetish without feeling sticky. The finish shows an appealing sweet-bitter balance but could be a bit longer. An unusual, characterful rum away from Caribbean classics.

Quite okay, in the smell I couldn't clearly say what else was mixed in. Taste-wise interesting but also slightly sharp. Finish with a nice warm sweetness.
