I had the privilege of tasting this historic rum thanks to Jimmy, owner of Aguardiente, a small place with an incredible atmosphere where you can sit at the table and choose from the 1300 rum bottles on display. Surely this rum is an experience to try at least once in a lifetime! Personally, I was a bit disappointed because, given its history and price, I expected something more! In the tasting, the flavors remain a bit flat and there is a very persistent bitter note! Rum from a past era, with colors and flavors different from today's!

24.10.2020 Lovely tasting arranged by one of my suppliers of rum. Notes Very dark in colour. Nose Medium intense, wood, cinnamon, plum, light chocolate, faint leather. Palate Oily, balanced, complex, wood, tannins, light roasted, faint smoke, plum, light citrus, faint chocolate, raisin. Finish Medium to long, wood, dried fruit, faint chocolate, roasted, faint smoke.

A classic navy profile on the nose with tropical fruit from Jamaica alongside the heavy dark notes from Guyana. On the palate, the interplay remains, molasses sweetness, dark chocolate, tobacco, dark pepper flavors, but again also tropical fruit notes that flash with an estrous freshness. A very good navy release.

9,1:On the nose, toasted wood notes like pastry, roasted nuts, caramelized, chocolate, spicy cardamom, allspice, heavy, leather, tannins, strong barrel impact, fruits like mango, pineapple, papaya, dried and citrus fruits, figs, molasses, thick, herbaceous, bump into our nosetrils. On aeration, molasses is dark with licorice, black tea, flowery, earthy with cigar tobacco, vegetal with pencil shavings.Dried persimmon, plums and prunes, dried apricots, raisins and hints of banana arise, some fruits are candied. 9,1:On the palate, the attack is elegant, delicious, balanced and heavy, barrel impact is strong with dark roasted wood notes like cocoa, dark chocolate, pastry, leather, spicy with allspice, tannic, bitter, molasses is dark with licorice, earthy with tobacco, as various fruits play the show like dried apricots, prunes, raisins, dried cherries, figs, plums and dark berries. 9,0:The finish is long, dry&tannic, with thick, dark molasses and licorice, black tea, vegetal, roasted oak notes like coffee, caramel, leather, spicy and dried fruits, sour cherry. Dry herbs and fruity sweetness (tropical fruits) on the first nose. Fermented but no esters. Reminds me of a nearly pure Jamaican rum from the 50s. The palate entry is powerful, dry, balanced. Fermented and vegetal with dried fruits and prunes. Also some sweetness. The finish is very long, elegant and dry but with sweetness too, like lychee syrup that develops more and more. A very, very beautiful rum!

I would never have dreamed of tasting this rum - liquid history like no other rum. Extremely complex from nose to finish. Very heavy on the nose with lots of toasted wood, leather, tobacco and winter spices. There is also plum, which is prominent right through to the finish. Burnt sugar provides the really only subtle sweetness. The alcohol is noticeable, but not unpleasant. A wonderful rum and a must for every rum collector, even if there are certainly other rums at a better PLV

The nose is really outstandingly good. On the palate, it doesn't quite reach the very high level, but is still a very nice Navy Blend. Tropical fruits from Jamaica meet dark notes from Guyana. Very nicely balanced with pleasant sweetness.

Nice Navy rum, the interplay of components works very well. Creamy mouthfeel, which unfortunately still comes across a bit thin, a few percent are missing. Overall really good, but for the money I'd rather buy 15 bottles of Velier Royal Navy.

No question, a lot of heavy stuff has come together here and caused a really good navy blend. The age couldn't do any harm here either. Sweet, heavy, and dark. A great navy blend with dark but lively notes. Just don't think about the price...
