Pretty good rum from Bally and you get what you pay for. The Agricole notes are there just in a light version. The nose is warm, fruity and woody with nutmeg, tobacco, leather and a hint of varnish. The palate is also fruity and woody with sugarcane, leather, tobacco and a hint of iodine and flowers. The finish is medium long with wood, spices and dried fruits.

Beautiful copper color. But everything is average, the nose as well as the palate, almost bland. I'm not a fan of the bleached and waxed cork stopper, I find it impregnates the alcohol. It certainly has a pleasant scent, but more worthy of a VO. Disappointing, for a vintage agricole. There is more length and taste in a JM volcanic terroir 3 years at 30 euros... The finish is very short.

A fairly classic Millésime from J. Bally, offering what you expect from an agricole rum: vegetal notes (sugarcane) and herbal notes, spices that enhance the profile, fruity aromas (dried fruits, banana) for indulgence, and a nice woodiness that is not overpowering. The attack on the palate is soft but more focused on the agricole notes. You feel a certain freshness, notes of tea and tobacco join the spices, wood, sugarcane and dried fruits. A rather basic profile lacking impact, depth in aromas and liveliness. The finish follows the rule and is soft and light, with a hint of cocoa, roasted notes, spices, sugarcane, wood and floral and grassy notes. The fruits play a minor role here. A fairly generic rum, without much surprise, which falls into disuse compared to other brand cuvées, and even compared to the permanent range positioned at a similar level.

On the nose wonderfully fruity with wood notes and for an Agricole very restrained regarding the "freshness." In the mouth it takes a while for the fruity sweetness to develop, then the typical floral notes of Agricole appear. Unfortunately, the finish is very quick. The great smell raises high expectations that unfortunately are not fulfilled.

Already a grassy bally ... Very vegetal on the nose with a tiny hint of a mirabelle. :-) On the palate, then floral and plant-like. I'm liking agricoles more and more and this one is very solid too. Also good in a daiquiri.

My RumRatings review from 5 years ago: On the nose, the J Bally shows typical Agricole notes with a high citrus content. This is accompanied by a nice wood influence, orange, a fine spice, and a floral note. On the palate, the rum is floral, surprisingly sweet, and woody. Here, the grassy aromas are more noticeable. It also shows fruit, spice, and finishes balanced with a distinct spicy, fruity wood note. For me, the J. Bally is a solid Agricole with a very fruity note and lots of lemongrass. Compared to my Damoiseau and HSE XO, however, it can't quite keep up. The competition in this price range is just very high.

A great everyday sipper if you like agricole's rhums! I come back to it regularly as i do with Bunnahanhain 12, old pulteney 12 or HP 12 for whiskies. Around 50-55€ at the time, a bargain!

Pleasantly nutty on the nose. Herbal or floral notes and a pleasant mildness. The nuts are no longer so present, but the rum waits with clear freshness and florality before the spice takes over.In the finish honey and herbs. On the nose as on the palate pleasant Agricole.

And here is our surprise candidate. Sascha 'smuggled in' 2003 to see how it compares to the older vintages. Pear, some wood, leather and the same glue as in 1960 and 1982 is noticeable on the nose – very intense and substantial. The palate can be classified neither as young nor old. Pear, wood, something dirty/earthy and all that in a non-alcoholic intensity that I really appreciate. A long, pleasant finish rounds off this great rum. 88 points

First nose freshness of the cane with a very noble woodiness quite characteristic of the brand indeed. The alcohol is more present than on the 12 years for example. More fruity after airing. First palate quite strong but frankly pleasant, very good woodiness difficult to describe, fleeting smoky notes, excellent length on the palate. I prefer it just barely to the 12 years which costs the same. It remains a rum for purists ++ with a beautiful intensity and length. At first you mainly have spices and wood and at the end of the palate more fruity, fresh with the cane at the very end that lingers.
