During my recent visit to St. Nicholas Abbey together with some other Swedes we tasted this rum in the VIP room supervised by Larry Warren. The 8yo is the second aged rum completely made at St. Nicholas Abbey. During the early days of SNA there was an 8yo molasses based release distilled at Foursquare that’s very hard to get nowadays. (After what I can see from added photos is all the ratings here about the SNA edition) This rum is distilled from cane syrup in SNA’s hybrid still called “Annabelle”. It’s barreled at 65% and the aging takes place in American white oak barrels previously contained bourbon. The nose is round, fresh, fruity and spicy with scents of citrus, grapefruit, pineapple, vanilla and ginger. At the palate it’s round, delicious, fruity, spicy and roasted with flavors of pineapple, grapefruit, lemon, ginger and vanilla. The finish is medium long.

Discovered at a private tasting. Nice opening but clearly not worth the price. The 40° reduction is already hurting it. The olfactory markers are not expressive enough. Slight caramel cooked in milk, a woody presence on the vanilla cream, some spices, slightly floral. On the palate, there's a little more milk cocoa. Citrus fruits mingle with cocoa. It's smooth and rather elegant, so it's perhaps worth a try for neophytes, the only downside being the price.
