Huh? Why is it rated so badly? I really think it's great anyway. Of course, it has the typical Guyana notes. It's very, very dark, definitely coffee and mocha are there, tobacco is also clearly noticeable.

Today, a little feedback on a sample I recently tasted: Rum Nation SBRR Diamond 2005 (58.3%). Distilled in 2005 on the Diamond column at DDL (Guyana) and bottled by Rum Nation after 11 years of aging. Even though it's not mentioned on the label, this rum has a whisky finish! For me, whisky finishes rarely make sense with rum... and here, I'm no exception to the rule. Sure, the smoky touch can add a complementary effect, but as a fan of the classic Guyanese profile — dark fruits and dense aromatics — I find these notes unpleasant. In the end, everyone will have their own opinion, but personally, it didn't really convince me. I won't finish this sample... but maybe it will be part of the mystery samples in our next Rhum Mirror tasting. Lucky, huh?

Whiskey finishes hardly ever make real sense in rum in my eyes - unfortunately, I can't shake that feeling here either. While the smokiness can certainly be said to have a complementary effect, for me as a lover of the classic Guyana profile with heavy sweetness, dark fruits and dense aromatics, these flavors are simply not needed. In the end, however, everyone may decide for themselves, it does not really pick me up.

Dark and intense. The smoky note is still rather subtle on the nose. On the palate then liquid ashtray. Guyana meets Islay. Freaky, but somehow also cool.

Oh dear, another whisky finish. However, this one is quite well integrated and not so disturbing. Strange that here in the app it says Sherry Finish….

Nose: sweet raisins, milk chocolate, rotten cherries Taste: chocolate, slightly roasted, woody, slightly earthy, a bit of licorice Finish: long, round, roasted meat, orange zest, slightly bitter and tart, cherry pits Not enough finesse in this rum. The nose doesn't match the taste and finish – like three different rums, each average. The cask (seems like PX) is noticeable at the start and end but with a poor effect – maybe low quality or some refill? No, this is not what I like.

On the nose:Roasted, dark, smoky, burnt sugar, musty, walnuts. You get sherry notes once this rum opens up. Taste:Smoky, peaty, tobacco notes and leather at first. Then you get sherry notes and maple syrup notes as dominant note. Finish: light peat, light smoke, light dark chocolate. Light sherry notes. Medium finish. I think the key is to let this rum sit in the glass until you get sherry notes. Ok, peated whisky notes and sherry cask notes, not everyones cup of tea. From my experience usually whisky cask finished, like Islay cask finishes tend to overtake the rum and that leads to a poor results in my opinion. Here, the Islay cask influence is very present, but in my opinion doesn't overtake the rum too much. But still, its not everyones cup of tea and i would recommend this rum to a whisky drinkers that have tolerance for Islay whisky.

19. 01.2019 A nice evening with colleagues from all over Denmark. Notes. Medium dark colour. Nose: fresh, wood, light caramel, roasted, earthy, dried fruit. Palate: oily, wood, roasted, licorice, light smoke, chocolate, dried fruit. Finish: medium to long, wood, smoke, chocolate, raisin.

Very surprising! A smoky, grilled side persistent throughout. I'm used to this in Scottish whiskies but not in rums... But here I find a little smoke like Lagavulin. Overall it's good, but it needs quite a bit of airing. I will probably change my rating after a second tasting.

Nose: heavy, cooked wine, very dark candied cherry, sulfur, struck match, Palate: very very sulfurous, trashy woody. Meh, the smoke takes over. Too too marked by the cask. Might please peat whisky lovers, not me.
