A.H. Riise Royal Danish Navy Strength Rum
Sip it slow or pour it over dessert: this is the 55% version of A.H. Riise's Danish Navy, and the extra strength gives it more backbone than the 40%. Expect caramel, dark chocolate, orange peel and spice, all sitting on a big cushion of sugar. Several tasters call it the best of the range, but nearly everyone agrees it's still very sweet.

How does A.H. Riise Royal Danish Navy Strength Rum taste?
Summarized by AI from community reviews.
Sweet, chocolatey dessert rum with more punch The higher ABV wins a lot of people over as the pick of the Danish Navy line, but the sugar divides hard — sweet-rum fans love it, purists call it liqueur.

In contrast to the 40%, the intensity of the aromas has increased significantly. Wood and chocolate dominate the nose and palate. The sweetness is not quite as pronounced. In the finish, the lingering honey and light smoky notes are exciting.

Received as a bonus sample from Rhum Attitude, thanks for the fact that you get something like this in a plastic sample when you order high-quality rum. Unfortunately, I have no other opinion about the rum than that it is simply extremely sugary water with rum flavor. Typical extremely sweetened spirit drink. That's why I simply can't give it a good rating.

03.12.2025 Day 3 of my Christmas Calendar and I still really think it is too sweet. But slightly better than most of the other releases. ---------- I like that they let this one have a higher ABV but it's still not there yet. Still a sweet rum and I would have loved less sweetness and maybe a bit higher ABV.

A strong and intense rum where you don't notice the higher alcohol content. Still very sweet with a long finish. Woody on the palate, caramel and chocolate. Not my favorite of this series but quite OK.
Review by BTHHo 🥃
The taste is powerful due to the alcohol strength of 55%, but when this settles, the taste is actually elegant with sweet notes of fruits, orange and English caramel.
Review by Martin Mihaly
Typical A.H. Riise sweet rum, slight wet chocolate note, woody and rusty. On the palate light, you don't notice the 55%, sweet, chocolate-woody. Medium finish.

This one is actually quite enjoyable. You get the typical riise flavour but with well incorporated alcohol of 55% strength. I bought a bottle of this and along with 3 others, it is my favorite from the portfolio.

Nice dessert rum with a pleasant spiciness. Certainly not for every day, as it is perhaps too sweet. Nevertheless, a thoroughly drinkable rum

Well, I should have known beforehand but oh well, once again a sugar water from the house of Riise. Let's start with the unusually dark color, sugar coloring says hello. On the nose caramel, chocolate, orange, and alcohol. In the mouth then a spirituous liqueur. Very sweet with high alcohol. Caramel, chocolate, orange almost like Christmas cookies. Finish medium, honey, chocolate and above all sweetness. You get the feeling the sugar lays like a coating on the teeth. Suitable for baking, eating ice cream or sweet flambéing, less so for drinking, at least if you want to drink rum.

Caramel, orange and peach in the nose. Candied orange peel and lemonade in the taste. It seems a bit more spicy than the regular Danish Navy, although that might just be the higher alcohol. A light nuttiness to it in the finish. The best one of the Danish Navy range, but I'd wish it would be less sweet.

Burns briefly at the start.

Taste-wise, AH's signature, this sample is medium strong and intense, but not unpleasant, no higher alcohol content noticeable, sweetness and spiciness come through.. long and sweet finish with alcoholic tail. Spicy taste, caramel and chocolate on the palate. But a good rum for everyday drinking 🙂

Nose: Citrus, spice, mint, slightly alcoholic Taste: Sweet, raspberry, caramel, raisins in very sweet chocolate Finish: Short towards medium, bitter chocolate, caramel, spices (chilli and cinnamon)
Review by Kamil Čmiel
Rich aroma with licorice, mint, orange peel, coconut, papaya and eucalyptus. Hint of balsamic reduction, black tea and burnt caramel. The color of the rum is dark mahogany.
Review by Rumbaer
Amber-colored spirit drink. Smell of caramel and spices, slightly alcoholic. Taste also dominated by caramel. Again lots of sugar. At this amount probably my personal low point. At least somewhat better than the Danish Navy 40%.
Review by Ondřej Sova
Classic taste of Danish Navy series, but with higher voltage and little less sweetness ( but still a very sweet ).

V risi silnych rumu dobra volba. Neni to rum na leto, ale do chladneho pocasi. Sladsi, ale vzhledem k voltazi primerene.

You can really feel the 55° in the mouth. Pleasant caramelized taste.

Much better blend. Nice burnt sweetness with only a hint of range. Quite sweet but well contained by the 55% ABV. I like it as many others do, but still not tickling my senses.
Review by primus
Pretty sweet. Despite the 55%, rather off-putting. The flavor profile itself isn't actually that bad. I do like woody and caramel rums, but all the sugar ruins it.

Still too sweet
Review by [2stoned] aKu
Lots of sweetness, raisins, blood oranges, clove, mixed nuts, dark chocolate. Even this bitter herbal note that lingers here is sweet. You could call it herbal candies. The alcohol suits it powerfully and is wonderfully integrated. Extremely easy to drink, you have to be careful, it can make you dizzy quickly. This is exactly what I imagine rum to be, but you have to like sweetened rum enjoyment, otherwise it's too much. At a good price, I'll probably have to stock some of it.

Very pleasant and strong... cozy warm on the finish.

Compared to the "normal" Riise a bit more facets, which probably comes from the higher alcohol content. A little more power suits the Riise well and makes it a little more pleasing than the 40%. For me, nevertheless, simply much much too sweet. Nevertheless, a drinkable rum that is certainly very tasty for sweet rum lovers.
Review by Scotty1960
Not so sweet, chocolate, a bit woody. Very pleasant that despite the spices the alcohol doesn't feel too strong in the mouth. Very good value for money.
