Had actually expected worse, but this rum is just borderline for pure enjoyment. I think it has become too sweet. You can smell and taste chocolate and it somehow comes across as dark.

On The Rocks: On the nose it is very mild with a light fruit, floral, spice and oak mixture with hints of Sake. Taste reveals a sweetness with stronger spice and oak notes with a reasonable alcohol presence. It feels oily as it coats your mouth. Finish is medium with a mild bitterness and a spice with mild oak notes. It is a little confusing and a very different rum overall. This might be better suited mixed or in a cocktail. Mixed Pepsi Zero: On the nose Dusty old Pepsi-Zero. Tastes like dusty old Pepsi Zero. There is a little underlying hint of that Sake-like flavour. Finish is short. Not really any more enjoyable mixed…

Fruit, wood, dark roasted aromas to coffee in the nose. I am impressed, I had expected less.In the mouth then unfortunately thin, edgy, slightly bitter and burnt. Huge discrepancy. After the back out's something scratchy. For long drinks, however, this can be quite fun.

Some hints of oak, but the burn overpowers it. Was not great mixed. A nice bottle design, but I’m not a big fan of screw tops.

Drinks: - Pur: 3/5 - Rum Cola: 3/5

"It adds a slight coconut/almond (again) note. Tanduay Gold Asian Rum isn't particularly expensive. So it may be worth a punt if you like a slightly "nutty" light rum. I do think there is something more going on here than just the original distillate and barrel ageing. Not bad per..."Read full review →
