Duncan Taylor Bellevue Single Cask Rum 1998
Sip this one neat and give it air — it opens slow. Expect sour cherry and red berries, cedar and oak, then roasted coffee and milk chocolate folding into spice. A well-aged Guadeloupe agricole from Bellevue, rounder than its 1998 siblings. The recurring gripe: at 52.8% the body reads a touch thin, so some of the depth gets watered out.
- Sour cherry, red fruit
- Coffee and chocolate
- Round, balanced

How does Duncan Taylor Bellevue Single Cask Rum 1998 taste?
Aggregated from 35 community reviews.
Woody, cherry-and-coffee aged agricole Most tasters land high — a round, woody Bellevue with sour cherry, coffee and chocolate. The common catch: a slightly thin mouthfeel, and the coffee note can turn dominant for some.

Nose: less fruity and less perfume m. Gravitating more towards roasted and woody notes. Very good. Palate: well balanced with some freshness and sweetness - candid ginger. Definitely one of the most well balanced out of my line up.

RumX calendar 01.12.2023 Had blindly guessed an Agricole from the Les Ephemeres range.
Review by Jakob
Exciting Bellevue from 1998, which offers the typical aroma spectrum of fresh red fruits, rich barrel impact as well as spices and a portion of roasted aromas, but is somewhat more tamed compared to other representatives from the 1998 vintage due to the slightly lower alcohol content on the one hand, but also rounder on the other. All in all, further proof of the inspiring quality of the Bellevue releases. Great!

RumX Advent 1.12.23 Herbal, spicy, medicinal notes, red and blue fruits, good sweetness. Possibly a few volumes too little for a higher rating. I like it very much.

Great bottlings keep coming out of Guadeloupe. DT always has good casks and 18 yo with cask strength sounds great. Nose: beautifully spicy, woody and fruity. Initially slightly peppery with nutmeg and slight hints of Maggi. There is also something spicy, perhaps ginger and a hint of mint. Fragrant cedar wood and a light roasted smoky note take over, closely followed by a creamy toffee sweetness with cherry, blackberry and subtle lemon zest. Very pleasant. 88 Palate: Spicy and woody here too. A delicious blend of umami, licorice, sweetish caraway and slightly salty-peppery. But it has something fresh and herbal about it, with saffron and camomile underlined by sour cherry and grape. Grassy sugar cane and liquorice come through at the back. I also really like it. 86

I wouldn't have thought of Bellevue 98 after the first sip. Age takes time, so let's wait... Now berries and a little cherry await us on the nose. It's slightly peppery with a few hints of aniseed. The citrus note, still clearly recognizable at first approach, has (fortunately) receded into the background. The profile is also balanced on the palate and I like it more and more at the end when a few roasted aromas are added before it ends in more grassy areas and the origin becomes clear here at the latest. It's only the cinnamon note that stands out a little on the palate that I can't quite get to grips with. But a great round Bellevue.

A very round Bellevue with the right amount of wood, spices, red fruit and a touch of caramel.

06.04.2019 Nice relaxing day at home with nice samples. Notes Medium dark colour. Nose: wood, berries, light caramel, fruitcake, light smoke. Palate: fresh, sweet, wood, light smoke, clove, medium dry, faint licorice. Finish: medium long, warm, wood, tea, spices, cherry.

#1 from the Advent calendar...if I hadn't already known, I would have guessed a Savanna (not a GA, rather Traditionnel). Very tasty piece in any case!

Similar to the bottling of The Royal Cane, the Duncan Taylor has it all. Beautiful fruity notes (currants, some cherry), wood, spices. But it also lacks a little depth here due to the low alcohol content.

RumX Kalender Tag 1.

RumX advent calendar day 1: detected it was from Guadalupe but not recognised as a Bellevue 1998 (I love this vintage). A pretty light Bellevue 1998 compared to recent releases, yet the aromas are all there but it's just missing the oooh effect many other Bellevue do have.

RX calendar day 1 2023 Got the Island right. A delicate Agricole which is a nice sipper. Not super complex, it doesn't have much of grassy notes, just some nice fruit like pears and mirabelles, natural sweetness and a minerality which made it Agricole in my mind.

A really good bottling! A round, yet complex rum with a beautiful combination of dark fruits, wood, chocolate and a little tobacco.

Smooth and very delicately fruity agricole at first smell. Strawberry bubble gum… Then some wood. Very sweet and fruity at first then wood and leather, tobacco. Wood is really present and point toward a rather old agricole. Really really good.
