Nine years in an ex-bourbon cask has smoothed the cane down to light oak, orange peel, roasted nuts and a touch of vanilla. Balanced and easy to sip at 43%, but several tasters wish it went further — one calls it a touch too soft, and the finish stays short.

Tasted at the rum fest, just after the 1999 vintage, on the advice of the brand representative. I found it quite expressive and well balanced with toasted woody notes, a bit of citrus and spices. A bit more alcohol might have given it more length. But it remains a good product.

#4977 15.12.2024 Enjoying some samples at home. Nose Fresh, round, light wood, roasted, spice, light nutts, light berries, faint chocolate, light floral. Palate Round, fresh, light coffee, light wood, faint smoke, berries, light orange, oily, light chocolate. Finish Medium to long, light wood, light chocolate, berries, spice, faint orange, oily. The empty glass has stronger wood and citrus notes.

On the nose woody, burnt sugar, spices, hazelnuts and light roasting. On the palate it is delicate, maintaining the same aromas found on the nose with a short finish.

Trois Rivières 2004 – 43% An emblematic plantation of Martinique, Trois Rivières takes its name from the three rivers – Oman, Bois d’Inde, and Saint-Pierre – that irrigate its cane fields. Distillation was transferred in 2004 to the La Mauny site, so this vintage is at the crossroads of eras: perhaps one of the last witnesses of the Sainte-Luce era, or on the contrary, one of the first born at La Mauny! Distilled on site and then aged 11 years under the Caribbean sun before being bottled at 43%, this rum comes from a single American bourbon barrel (no. L19-38), bottled on May 28, 2015. A balanced and pleasant rum to drink, but it lacks a bit of character and length to really leave a mark.
