DDL S.B.S Guyana 2003
Good rum, not a great one — that's where most tasters land. This herbal Demerara leans dry and woody: think herbal-tea, licorice, anise and dried fruit over young oak, with black pepper running underneath. The nose pulls you in (one member calls it a mountain-herb candy), then the palate turns austere and spice-forward. At nearly 60% the alcohol sits surprisingly well, but the wood and pepper crowd out the fruit.

The nose immediately gives off ester aromas, with fruity notes of apple and dried fruit. Licorice, pepper and other spices are also present. Quite conventional for a Guyana of this age. On the palate, this is a full-bodied rum... very powerful, too alcoholic for my taste. There are hints of fruit and licorice, with damp wood and vanilla. The finish is long, with notes of bitter citrus, spices (pepper-aniseed) and smoky-woody notes. A complex rum, like a mountain herb candy. But unfortunately too alcoholic.

86 Punkte

Herbal tea meets Guyana. Well, nose still exciting / complex (herbal, nutty, roasty, fruity) and makes you want more, but in the mouth then woody, dry, spicy, tart. Would have liked more roasted flavors, caramel and fruit. In the finish a lot of licorice, spices and dried fruit, which what does not quite meet my taste.

Had a wonderful evening with some new faces for a super S.B.S tasting. Nice and lightly fruity rum with a nice spicy/warm kick to it. Lightly woody with a perfect ble d of spices.

Guyana can be a little tricky in my taste. There are the ones that I love and the ones that I’m not the biggest fan of. Those are the herbal and vegetal ones. This one tastes a lot like a very herbal PM, in addition to some wood and spices a a touch of fruit. Interesting but not for me.

Not bad, but clearly the weakest bottling from the four S.B.S Guyana releases. Good high-quality rum, but too interchangeable.

for me more like Versailles but probably PM. A bit harsh/austere for the age, still very good.
Review by Alex1981
Starts strong with a nice fruity/sweet/herbal nose which you would expect from Guyana, but gets pretty herbal/woody on the palate without much complexity. Short - medium finish that leaves you with bitter notes. Overall ok but disappointing.

Find the rum difficult. Certainly qualitatively very good, but we will not be friends.
