Surprisingly grown-up for a 40% entry Foursquare: expect caramel and vanilla up front, then oak, spice and a whisper of toasted coconut. Several tasters find the nose sweeter and richer than the palate, which stays light with a short-ish finish. One member sums it up as "Round. Full. Vanilla. Tasty." Really delicious evening drink. Enough depth to ponder a bit, but not so complex that you have to focus only on it. Everything fits well together and it's a really well-made honest product.

Overall a good everyday rum, especially when taking the price into account. The brand Doorly’s was founded in 1908 by Martin Doorly & Company, but is since 1992 owned and some years later produced by Foursquare and Mr. Richard Seale. The 8yo is a rather new bottling in the Doorly’s line-up that saw the light of day in 2016, in the beginning mentioned for the Australian market. It’s a single blended rum, a combination of column and pot still, aged in former bourbon casks of American oak whereafter it’s bottled without any dosage or additives at 40%.

#5245 16.04.2025 Tasting with Fabian in Blåvand. Nose Sweet, caramel, light wood, orange, dough, fruits, dried fruit, faint coconut. Palate Oily, sweet, light wood, spice, faint chocolate, orange, faint tobacco, light caramel. Finish Short, sweet, orange, light wood, light cinnamon, caramel. ------------------- I use this rum for my favourite rum punch. 2 parts rum 1 part lime juice 1 part canesugar syrup For some flavouring add some Angostura aromatic bitter.

An uncomplicated Barbados rum that stands out mainly with vanilla, caramel, wood, and spices. There's also a bit of coconut and orange. It's smooth and pleasantly drinkable without excessive sweetness. It fits well into the category of solid everyday rum. Attractively priced, but not an extraordinary Foursquare due to lack of depth.

Doorly’s does not disappoint; I don’t know if there is a better price to quality ratio for rum than what Foursquare puts out under this label. It has all the classic aged rum flavor you are looking for in a well rounded profile. I would reach for this rum to sip but especially to build a cocktail.

A Doorly's that shows a good quality / price ratio. If we find the typical Bajan style, whether vanilla, spices, caramel, wood and coconut in particular, we discern appreciable notes of freshness in this rum. The rest of the register does not change in the mouth, with discreet but easily perceptible aromas. The finish is also quite short. Far from being the most complex of the rums, it offers however a good entry to the superior range of Barbados.

The nose is beautiful, lots of coconut, nice mild spiciness, a bit of vanilla and caramel. Unfortunately, the palate can't hold up to that; for experienced rum drinkers, it comes across as very watered down. Lightly spicy, orange peel and wood are the most noticeable flavors here. The finish is short and rather peppery.

Lined up with 2 other 8 years (Barbancourt, Hampden) this rum stands out as exception for a few reasons. It’s nose is stronger than the Barbancourt, and less aggressive than the Hampden, while not having the complexity of the Hampden, but a certain kind of real substance to it. Repeated wafts give cinnamon, oak, maple, and only the faintest ethyl note. In many ways it reads more as an older rum with fewer specific indications of the fermentation. A great value for money, and in my estimation a fair albeit simple sipper.

I had a good memory of the Doorly's 12 especially after a long oxidation. This one pleases me less. The alcohol is overall moderately integrated and the nose is clearly superior to the palate which suffers from a lack of richness and density.

Fun sipper for a very affordable price, and could please and newer Rum drinker. Easy to drink neat and not overly complicated. Semi Sweet and Carmel on the nose. Spice and woodiness on the palate, with a medium finish and wood notes. Over all very enjoyable for the price and would buy again. Great Rum to drink from FourSquare without breaking the bank

Nothing special or remarkable, but definitely not bad either. If your budget allows, I highly recommend going for the 12-year-old version. If not, this is a solid bottle of rum.

Starts off woody with some caramel. A little toasted coconut in the smell. Pours dark golden. More wood in the mouth. A little pepper on the finish. Medium finish. Not quite as nice as 12 year, or the Richard Seale bottle. But good for price. Bottle

This is a pleasant sipper at a good price from Doorly’s. Very sweet and woody on the nose. Notes of brown sugar, spice, and orange peel. Smooth, but not as smooth as some of Doorly’s other rums.

Rhum aged in American white oak barrels. The subtle notes on the nose as well as on the palate make it a pleasant rum for an entry-level at 8 years old. Take the time to appreciate it to grasp all its flavors.

This rum has a rich and deep flavor. Expect notes of dark chocolate, ripe tropical fruit, maybe even a hint of tobacco or leather. The sweetness of vanilla and caramel remains prominent but is more balanced with woody and spicy notes. Excellent rum with a nice complex finish, good balance between sweet, dry and spicy. Recommended!
