Overall a fantastic and well-balanced Agricole that I tasted at the pre-party to Sweden Rumfest 2023 at Cane Rum Society in Stockholm. The Savanna Distillerie was built between 1948 and 1950 by Emile Hugot in Saint Paul, Reunion. It wasn’t the first distillery in Reunion cause rum has been distilled in the island since the 1870’s from sugarcane grown on the island. In 1992 the distillery was moved the Bois-Rouge sugar factory in Saint Paul where the entire production now takes place, from cultivation and harvesting of the sugar cane to distillation and bottling. Rum from the Savanna distillery has grown quite popular lately and Mr. Fabio Rossi from Rum Nation started a collaboration with them some years ago which has resulted in this bottling among some others. This single cask bottling was distilled in 2007 in their Savalle Column Still whereafter was transferred to former cognac casks for eleven years of aging before bottled in 886 bottles.

A very untypical Savanna. The Cognac finish is clearly noticeable in smell and taste here, giving it a certain elegance. On the palate a bit watery when tasted in small sips. The finish, however, elevates the rum again. A very untypical Savanna with the elegance of a fine Cognac.

#6851 Back from my aunts birthday and time for a few samples. Listening to some nice tracks by Hardwell, AVAO, Kysh and Giorgia Angiuli. Price to quality you get a pretty good deal here I think. A medium intense rum with a nice Agricole profile with some fruit, sugarcane, roasted wood and nice spices.

A nice Agricole, quite vinous (Cognac cask) but fresh and vegetal. I prefer something else from Savanna but it's well made.

Nose; freshness of dried candied grape, vanilla, wood glue, a vegetal side on green sugarcane. It's elegant on rose flower, loukoums, rose extracts. Some white-fleshed fruits. Palate; the woody aspect is more pronounced. Slightly spicy and almost smoky. It's herbal too, a fresh hay aspect. The white-fleshed fruits return (pear, white peach). The whole lacks intensity and concentration but has a nice balance of aromas. 79+

In the nose dry grassy notes, with an intense varnish tone. The taste is explosively funky. Notes of wine, grass and again the beloved polish. Alcohol is not perfectly integrated and quite stinging. I don't need to drink this again.

Rums from the Savanna distillery are some of my favorites. I recommend everyone try especially the ester-heavy pieces like Grand Arôme or HERR. You haven't felt so much fruit in just a few drops of liquid for a long time.

The nose is less round and drier. There's slight woodiness, peach, and something intriguing-disturbing: varnish-glue. On the palate, it's very-too funky! Are we still on agricole!? There's wood, dried fruits but especially again that quite disturbing nail polish-glue. There's freshly cut grass, it's the entrance to a Réunion garden but disappointing. The finish is overall long but uninteresting. Honestly, it's not at all indulgent. There's like a touch of grand arôme in the agricole but the whole isn't well balanced.
