The rum shows caramel, wood polish and dried fruit on the nose. Spicy on the palate, slightly tangy with notes of oak and pepper. The finish is dry, short, with tart bitterness and spice.

Compared to Batch #5, this one feels a bit more muted in terms of flavor. Could be the lower ABV, the year less in aging, or just that it's a different vintage altogether – who knows, maybe a mix of all that. That said, I'm a bit surprised by the lower ratings, because honestly, it’s not bad at all. Actually, it's pretty solid. Sure, it doesn’t hit the same heights as Batch #5, but for me, it’s still easily over 8.0 points.

Well this was a journey!! On the nose - a delicate waft of peated Sherry whisky without the maltiness! Quickly moving over to reveal oak, some nutty and chocolate notes reminiscent of a Sherry cask whisky. Finally it reminds me of a Campbeltown Whisky in that it has this dirty feel to it - oily rags, industrial machinery, some boiler room mustiness. VERY impressed with the nose so far!! On the palate, there’s a big whack of freshly cracked black pepper, oak spice which is then kept in check with that dried fruits, (almost sweet) tobacco notes and surprising orange note - if I had to simplify this in one term? Bitter-sweet - literally a combo of bitter and sweet and honestly? Leaves me wanting more to be honest! Especially it doesn’t dry out my mouth excessively - namely due to the ABV than it being a dry rum! Banger - hope I can get this bottle somewhere!
