New Yarmouth RA Jamaica Rum 2009
Don't let the 66.9% scare you off too fast — once it's rested, this New Yarmouth opens into banana bread, marzipan, warm brioche and sweet mandarin, with glue and fermented tropical fruit underneath. It's a proper ester bomb, but several tasters call it surprisingly balanced for the power. The finish runs dry and a little spicy. A few find it harsh and one-dimensional next to older bottles.
- High-ester funk
- Banana bread, marzipan
- Balanced for power

How does New Yarmouth RA Jamaica Rum 2009 taste?
Aggregated from 53 community reviews.
Powerful high-ester Jamaican, funky but balanced Loved as one of the better New Yarmouths around — funky, full-bodied and high-ester, yet balanced. A few find it hot and a touch one-dimensional, and it makes a killer Mai Tai.

How can it be that after 4 years I still don't have a review for this bottling? For me it's one of the best bottlings I've ever tasted from NY. Apart from the 94s, there was somehow nothing else that I liked so much. Powerful, almost overwhelming, but then just perfectly balanced and complex. An estery bomb, but at the same time it offers a lot more. Warm brioche, sweet mandarins, marzipan, but also a slight smokiness and a hint of cinnamon. I think I could write a lot more here, perhaps I'm exaggerating a little. But somehow this rum has done it to me! Addendum: The sister bottling is also strong, really top, but for me a touch behind this one.

Verkostet gegen die 6 Monate ältere Schwesterabfüllung. Beide echte Knaller und sehr vergleichbar. Erinnert mich an der Nase an orientalische Mandel-Grieß Patisserie. Wundervoll.

Sensational Jamaican! funky and harmonious at the same time. Top!

Top high ester rum with nice honey notes in the otherwise quite dry finish.

Once rested this is really nice and hits really well on both the nose and palate. An intense yet really well balanced rum and the nose was was really nice in the empty glass. Even the day after the glass gave some wonderful notes.

Comes in comparison to the second edition first on the nose a little more elegant. Nice bananig, then some citrus on the palate but then for me also a little more bitter, since I like the second actually ne corner better at this moment. But otherwise similar and also great rum.
Review by RumTaTa
Great rum, nose, palate and finish are very homogeneous.First and funk are in the foreground and the alcohol is well integrated.Compared to the "Second edition" very similar, possibly a little milder.

Yes, definitely Jamaica, fermented fruits and massive esters from the start. The rum is like a double whammy, in the nose and on the palate, so it must! Now, however, my individual but:I have the rum parallel to the NY 1994 of Valinch

Tasted together with the second edition. This one is a bit harsher, peppery, a banana bread note, almonds, some esters but not too much, citrus, even a slight vegetable note, alcohol not that well integrated, but the finish is pleasant. Overall I felt the second edition is a much rounder one.

me personally pure a little too spicy. Beautiful cookie dough

On the nose there is the full load of esters and glue followed by spice and fruit, but mostly toasty and bitter notes like tobacco and chocolate. With the chocolate, marzipan resonates somewhere in between, making the nose quite complex. In the mouth, not as furry musty as some other Jamaicans, but still spicy dry with fermented sour fruit. At the same time, this rum is also sweet, which is why the mouthfeel is somewhat rounded. At the latest in the finish, a chemical note (solvent) appears, which reminds me most of raspberry or something floral. To this then yet fermented, musty and furry.
