Velier Clarendon Warren Khong Villa Paradisetto MMW 2007
Rum drinkers already deep into Jamaican Monymusk will feel at home here: nail polish and ripe fruit on the nose, then an oily, intense palate of banana, black pepper, anise and dry, slightly bitter oak, finishing long with a fresh menthol note. At 68.5% the alcohol bites early, so most tasters let it breathe an hour. One member calls it "another level" once it opens.

Very fruity „delicious“ in the nose. Super delicious intense in mouth with a super finish. The alcohol is integrated very well. This rum needs time to fully open! At least 1 hour Nose: fruity, some notes of banana, coconut, papaya, dried apricot, orange peal, oak, marzipan and the spicy :3 Mouth: It‘s a fully body of wood, anise, tobacco and some fruits. Very delicious. Finish: Long and minty with dominat notes of the barrel. Very Very good!

Heavy monymusk. Suits the cold season. Not particularly complex. Alcohol well integrated.

A little Monymusk comparison. Velier Monymusk 2007: Hard to access, with fruits and very spice-heavy. Very simple. Also a bit sharp. Quite tasty, but nothing that demands a re-tasting. Second tasting: -4 points Habitation Monymusk 2010: Woody, spicy, fruity. The alcohol is very well integrated. The rum is very well balanced and fun with every sip! Second tasting: = points

The bottle is now empty and I have to say that the time in the open bottle has made it better and better. To finish, I had some delicious Clarendon sweetness with fine guava Update: after giving this rum such a bad review, it's time for a little update. I've come to appreciate the Clarendon / Monymusk profile and now have to correct a few points upwards here. There are still a few things I don't quite like here, but now it's a rum I like to drink and a profile I'm starting to look out for.

#4269 23.09.2023 Relaxing after small tasting and a double birthday. Movie and a good rum is never a bad idea. I like this one. Just needs to rest for a good while before giving it a go. I got the bottle pretty cheap in a bundle which is why I have it. The nose is fresh and fruity with nice floral notes and a light smoky touch. The palate is oily and intense with fruit and spices. There is also some solvents and earthy notes in the back. The finish is long and warm/spicy with wood, citrus and light solvents and menthol. Draws nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass has some dried fruit and herbal notes.

A rum that needs time to be fully appreciated. If you know how to wait and taste it calmly it can give you some surprises!

At the Community Tasting in Nuremberg, I was deeply introduced to the world of Clarendon and grew fond of it. Although for me the differences between 7 different bottlings were rather small. I liked them all. Probably it was more due to the quantity that I couldn't really distinguish anything anymore. I will taste them all again calmly one by one.

Delivers a nice thick and oily MM profile. However, it is very much on the opposite of „accessible“ 🤪
Review by Thunderbird
The MM strongly reminds me of the first FRC MM. The nose is quite restrained and after a longer time in the glass fruit aromas, vanilla and spice unfold. The palate is more on the spicy herbal side, which continues in the finish. A very good but demanding MM.

Very tasty, but the alcohol could be better integrated.
Review by Andi
Nose: For me on the nose very vanilla, wood, solvent and fruity, banana Very fruity on the palate, solvent, wood, slight bitterness and then a pleasant, not too intrusive menthol note.
Review by crazyforgoodbooze
For me, unfortunately, a bitter disappointment. Extra tasted over 2 evenings, here's little positive to report. The alcohol is extremely present, this very fermented vegetable and fruit note, meaty umami notes, some tobacco, rotten wood and various baking spices and hardly any fruit. Unfortunately not my cup of tea. Think a few more years in the barrel would have done the still definitely good but so the whole thing is definitely too brute and unbalanced.
Review by Frank
Pleasant fruity-spicy nose, almost a touch floral. The alcohol still cuts at the start. Have dried apricot up front and sweet-tart papaya, banana and tart pineapple behind. Then comes dry wood with a bit of tobacco. Some sulfur can be heard. On the palate, the 68% hits. Very astringent and intense. Bitter and spicy. Pepper, nutmeg and anise. But also nicely fruity with pineapple and banana. The sweetness is almost reminiscent of marzipan. The finish remains wood and banana. If the alcohol were better integrated, it would be even better.

I'm a big fan of monymusk, and this one is no exception. Maybe a little too much spice, but it's very good. It needs a very long aeration to appreciate its full potential.

Tasted during a nice round. A beautiful Clarendon with plenty of power. The almost 70% is surprisingly well integrated. It's a lot of fun. I can also imagine it in a cocktail. Top! :)

I still have a hard time with Clarendon, but this MMW here could be a door opener for me. The alcohol is very well integrated and the wood is present, but not too intrusive. A beautifully harmonious distillate.
Review by Mentalo
The 2007 MMW needs a lot of time in the glass until it develops positively. The alcohol is still quite present at the beginning, then spicy, slightly fruity notes come through more strongly. Plus plenty of wood with bitter notes.
Review by w00tAN
Very fruity at the beginning with clear solvents and nail polish. In the mouth then very strong, spicy and hot and the alcohol could be a little better integrated, but it's only a few %. Still delicious and very exciting!

Bottle The rating doesn't quite reflect it for me. This is from Manimsk, one of the best there is. Packed with impressions and interesting aromas. Very powerful. Full of bright and tropical fruits. Citrus. Not too dark chocolate. Slight herbaceousness. Esters. Very strong mainly because of the alcohol percentage but that's also the extreme character of this bottle.

My daughter asked why am I drinking her nail polish…my wife said huh that’s intense rum smell..and it all means I have Jamaica in my glass. The color- mahogany - between brown to red. The smell- besides nail polish I noticed ripe fruits and spices. The taste is intense but not harm, minty fresh tones with oily background, integrated alcohol very well and the finish- long warm spicy pepper.. Yeah great for long winter evenings..

🥃 Velier Monymusk 2007 – 68.5% Here, we change dimension. Distilled in 2007, mark MMW (200–300 g/hlpa of esters), bottled 13 years later by Velier for the Villa Paradisetto series. 68.5% under the hood 🚀 Explosive nose, ultra fruity. Intense, vibrant palate. Superb mentholated finish. Expressive, powerful, confident. We're clearly on another level.

Time-consuming, lots of watts, but very complex and interesting!
Review by Michal S
Very strong, the 68% alcohol is noticeable. The aroma is dominated by wood, orange peel and solvents. The palate then takes on pungent and bitter notes (pepper). I recommend leaving it in the glass for at least half an hour and adding a few drops of water, the rum will then open up a little.
Review by Stijn Zino
Complex and very fruity. I love the Monymusk profile. A bit sharp, bitter and alcoholic in mouth wich takes it out of balance. But on the other hand packs a punch. Rather medium finish. Overall great rum!
Review by Adrian Adame
Color dark gold. Aroma gentle, fruity, no Jamaican style. Taste 68.5% is noticeable, fruity, typical Monymusk bitterness in taste, Jamaican character is felt.
