Reactions land in the middle here: nobody hates it, few get excited. It's a wood-forward Dominican column rum — oak up front, then caramel, vanilla and a quick jump to pepper and spice. A couple of tasters used to sip it neat years ago and now find it flat and one-note. One member called the finish "quite harsh" out of the bottle; let it breathe first.

Simple but good rum without frills

Not very different from the XV tasted previously. A woody ron with controlled (if overly present) sugar. No depth, no complexity, no length. Not unpleasant, but not for me.

On the nose restrained but mainly wood in the foreground. In addition, caramel and marzipan notes.In the taste after initial wood notes quickly peppery. Powerful, but also one-dimensional. Inexpensive, sweetened alternative to Mount Gay, although this is clearly better.

I expected a sweet one like Legendário, but the opposite is true. Sweeter on the nose than on the palate. Dominated by spices, vanilla, wood, caramel, dried fruit, raisins and pepper. The color is certainly colored, otherwise I can’t explain the dark color. After opening the bottle I had to let it air in the glass, it was very sharp on the first sip.

A few years ago it was more pleasant and made me sip neat back then. Now average and too expensive for that. Bottle will still be emptied, but no more than that.
