Bristol T.D.L Trinidad Rum for Haromex Dev. 2006

Wood leads, with caramel, vanilla and a cool streak of mint running underneath — the mint is the giveaway that this is a Trinidad TDL, though plenty of tasters blind-guessed Panama or a soft Spanish style. A single 2006 cask at 59.8%, and most find the alcohol sits surprisingly well. A couple do call the sweetness too much. One reviewer even caught "dirty Caroni notes" after a long rest.

Edit: RumX Advent Calendar 2024 Bonus 1 I didn't realize it, but due to the long (involuntary) standing time today I had the dirty Caroni notes with me. I still think it's delicious. A nice TDL for me. Just needs a little time in the glass, but then it's very enjoyable. Edit: Tasted it again on 19.09.23, after I had the Swell Private Garden #4 in my glass before. I find this one a lot better. This one has more power and after a while it unfolds its full range.

RumXmas 2024, day 25, bonus For me a rather atypical TDL, I thaught it was something South American in the glas. Alcohol well integrated, sips easily despite the ABV. Vanilla, caramel, spices and roasted wood, Not the markers in the profile that I’ll unusually associate with TDL. I’m not getting any menthol. Enjoyable but not memorable.

I rarely had 2006 T.D.Ls, as well as bottlings from Bristol. These T.D.L. also taste very rare. Blindly, I would have put these more in the Spanish direction. I still like them, but nobody should expect a fruity micro-bomb here. Cask 472/2 is very creamy on the palate and somewhat woody and bitter on the finish, which is not necessarily a bad thing. Cask 472/1, on the other hand, is somewhat more linear and even less exciting.

Angostura is famous for a bottle most people never drink neat. The bitters house founded in 1824 became Trinidad's only rum distillery, and its arm Trinidad Distillers makes a clean, column-distilled, Spanish-style rum unlike the heavy funk of Jamaica or Guyana. The same plant still guards the secret recipe for the world's most famous cocktail bitters.
