Most people find this genuinely interesting, and a few find the wood a bit much — both are fair. The acacia-cask finish gives it an unusual, spicy-floral oak that battles a big hit of cherry and red-currant fruit. Cinnamon, vanilla and roasted nuts fill in behind. The finish turns dry and tannic, sometimes bitter. At 47% it drinks easy, and several tasters call it a proper sundowner.

Interesting wood finish. I get a lot of cherries/sour cherries (maybe some Haribo Cherries too). The fruits and the wood is battling but keep each other in check. Some spices come through. A menthol freshness. Interesting and well made. Tasted it again on Christmas 2022. New packaging, which looks more retro than the old one. Still impressed. Lots of oak. Cognac. Good

The uncommon finish is quite noticeable both on the nose and the palate with spicy and floral influences. The barrel has really done some work here as I find the spirit quite woody for a New Grove. The taste is elevated further by strong coffee, roasted nuts, sweet cherries and wet soil notes. For me personally the experience is a little too sweet and too diluted.

8,4:On the nose, the first impression we get is a herbaceous molasses, spicy wood with cinnamon and nutmeg, vanilla, fruits like berries, currants, red fruits like cherry and raisins. On aeration, the nuts are caramelized, roasted, molasses flowery and new fruit notes arise like blackberry and citrus. 8,4:On the palate, the attack is tasty with roasted wood notes like chocolate, caramel, nuts, spicy and fruity with cherry, currants and berries, later tropical(mango), dried and yellow, as the molasses is dark with black tea, chesnuts and a bit flowery, bitter, after the rest, herbaceous. 8,3:The finish is long, dry and tannic, the notes are dark with smoky, roasted wood with leather, dark chocolate, toffee, pairing the dried and citrus fruits, raspberry, herbaceous molasses. Shop visit Rum Paradise Hamburg December 2025. Great New Grove in my opinion. The nose is very spicy and woody, with vanilla and cinnamon recognizable. On the palate similar, with dark chocolate and nuts added.

Beautiful nose of red berries especially currants, herbs and spices like cinnamon and rosemary, as well as some cocoa. On the palate then clearly woodier and more astringent than expected, the tannins are already very dominant here. Reminds of bitter tree resin, plus slight cardamom, sour black currants (cassis) and some tobacco. For me personally the wood influence is a bit too strong, still an exciting drop.

Nice as often with New Grove. Relaxed buddy who makes a really good figure as a sundowner. Nice aromas of cherry, wood and as I always find lychee and the special tone of the cask!

This is a sweet and fruity release and I would have loved a higher ABV. Still a well balanced rum good for beginners as well I think. Draws really nice curtains in the glass and the empty glass is really nice and has additional chocolate and nutty notes.

A rum with a lot of wood, followed by caramel, spices and toasty nut chocolate. Fruit (red fruit) also, but went with me compared to the other notes rather under or rather remains in the background. In the mouth then sharp with spices and wood. Now clearer fruit, caramel and nut chocolate are also found. Very round thing!

Wow what an insanely great fruity smell, everything is full of red fruits currant, red grapes, blackberry, a real red fruit basket on the nose. In the mouth it becomes woodier, heavier, darker but still a nice cherry note. A very slight popping sweetness comes to the fore. The finish is then sweetish, cherry and wood shake hands. At the very end a slight bitterness remains in the mouth.

Behind that slight woodiness and vanilla, a hint of cinnamon. Also spicy-fruity on the palate. Again with cherry, tropical fruits, somewhat more towards orange and at the end grapes. Also slightly floral here. Fragrant wood, some vanilla, lightly caramel-nutty. Aromatic, tasty, good. 47% is okay, more would be good too. Like it!

Color: Bright mahogany Smell: Smells sweet with tropical woods, chocolate, forest honey, and cinnamon. Also fruity with raisins and black currants. Somewhat herbal and floral. Taste: Sweet on the palate, then fruity with cherry. When swallowing, mainly toffee and caramel, spicy. Also flavors of chestnuts and cardamom, chocolate, resin, and forest honey. Finish: Medium length. Fruity with raspberries. Spicy with toffee, resinous, herbal, and slightly bitter. 86 points

Not my taste, but exciting. The special (acacia) wood of the Double Casks is clearly noticeable and leaves a very woody, bitter taste. Otherwise a quite complex and good rum, which apart from the wood fits Mauritius well. It would be interesting to know if it was a Virgin Cask and how the taste would have developed with otherwise almost usual Bourbon pre-aging.
