Sip this neat and give it real air — 20-30 minutes — or the solvent and glue up front won't budge. After that you get flambéed banana and pineapple, marzipan, a bit of chocolate. But the palate splits people: several find it turns bitter, woody and metallic, with the fruit fading and 63.9% of heat poking through. One member called it "not that harmonious no matter how long you let it breathe."

Finally got to sample the other half of this package. Lovely rum which needs to rest 20-30 minutes to get the full package off flavours Lightly dry and a slight bitterness with some fruits and chocolate. The glass the day after is really nice on the nose.

On the nose is pretty nice, better than the tropical, with honey marzipan and some hints of grappa. This dramatically changes while drinking, extremely bitter and metallic, a great astringency but little taste, mainly chemical, and only a little floral note. It's a no.

Velier project where you have a unique opportunity to compare two identical barrels, same age, from the same distillery. Basically siblings, where one stayed in the Caribbean and was aged tropically, while the other was aged continentally in Europe. An extraordinary opportunity.

On the nose still wonderfully fruity and mild, the palate is rather disappointing! Too bitter and woody... the fruit is completely lost and the alcohol is poorly integrated! Overall, however, slightly better than its tropical brother

07-03-2026 - Rate 7.5 Whiskymessen Kolding 2026 We took the continental flavored first. Expect the tropical one to be best of the two. Actually a nice taste. Not that much into the flavor. Has to much of a continental vibe. A good rum.

Cool Velier and Scheer E.A. project. 11yr old Wedderburn one cask continentially aged one tropical. Difference in colour is very noticable. The tropical one is much darker + more alcohol.

Apple with chocolate meets barrel aromas. It could be so delicious were my other associations not sharp and pungent. Diluting with the tropical version makes it milder although it increases the alcohol content.

Bottling always off topic: the same apple is found in the Emb, more pleasant, alcohol better integrated. Style mmw comes out with notes of butter and cocoa, body watery.

Here is an unloved rum and yet... 👃 typical of a Jamaican. You have to give it a good 10 minutes of aeration for its solvent and glue notes to give way to notes of flambéed banana and pineapple. 👄 powerful, you really feel the almost 70 degrees. The solvent gives way to well-ripened and flambéed tropical fruits. Average finish. An excellent heavy rum that deserves to be rediscovered but cannot be appreciated if you don't have the courage to face this kind of very powerful rums.

nice experiment between Continental and tropical aging but unfortunately both rums are almost not drinkable for me...the continental in the case rather reminds of a mixture of Williams pear and glue.... not harmonious no matter how long you let him breathe and in the finish totally after burnt plastic...

Nose: Fermented pineapple as the most distinctive representative of tropical fruits. Lacquer, herbs and a fresh note alongside the opulent alcohol presence. Palate: The freshness remains, otherwise you find all the aromas of the nose again. Additionally wood and distinct bitterness. Finish: Woody, bitter, honey. Conclusion: Milder and fresher than the tropical brother. Still, I don't warm up to this series. Too sharp, too peppery and too little Jamaica.
