Rhum J.M 2001

8.6/10
Rated by David, Kevin Sorensen 🇩🇰 & 28 more

Wood, spice and dried fruit lead here, with honey, orange peel, chocolate and a tobacco edge underneath. This 15-year Martinique agricole from J.M drinks round and elegant, more gourmand than grassy. Several tasters call it soft and harmonious — a spiced, pastry-like sipper. The recurring note: at 41.7% it's easy and gentle, and a few wish it hit harder.

How does Rhum J.M 2001 taste?

Aggregated from 30 community reviews.

Elegant, spiced older agricole, gentle strength Most find it elegant, spicy and dried-fruit-forward, an easy older agricole to sip. The common gripe: the low ABV leaves some heat poking through the finish and less punch than expected.

Perfect for

People easing into aged agricole who want spice and dried fruit over grassy funk

Less suitable for

A round, elaborate and structured JM. The nose is highly perfumed, with spices (vanilla, nutmeg, pepper), wood and pastry notes of caramel, toffee and cookie. Fruit comes through with aeration, with hints of orange, raisin and tropical fruit. The olfactory profile is particularly sweet and harmonious. The attack on the palate is very elegant and infinitely smooth. There's a spicy, woody, gourmet feel, with notes of chocolate, coffee, caramel and honey. Fruits arrive on a drier tone with grapes, but also a little greediness on exotic fruits and lemon. The alcohol is very well integrated for a relatively low degree, showing that the basic profile is dynamic. The finish, on the other hand, is slightly less pronounced. There's a good dose of dried fruit, but also wood, a few spices, honey and slightly bitter nuts (walnuts, almonds). A very good bottling from the distillery, smooth, pleasant and tasty.

Getting warmed up to Agricoles, though this probably is not my favourite profile. Some light fruit like peaches and apple, some nutty notes, earth, honey, I also get mint in late palate. General profile is also quite spicy, not too sure about alcohol integration.

Could not completely convince me even in the 2nd tasting. Somehow remained an alcoholic sharpness in the finish. At the quality and price very unexpected.

wacky device from an Agricole. unusually fruity, acidic, light dark chocolate and espresso notes and less wood than expected with a nice spice of cinnamon, prunes and dried apricot and rose water with orgeat. a few % more would be exciting, however, the thing here is also really very concentrated and intense.
