Bone-dry Diamond pot-still Demerara — licorice, old herbs, pencil shavings, a bitter edge, then a late caramel sweetness and hidden fruit that softens the finish. Delicious Diamond... Licorice, dark dried fruits, and pencil on the nose. Pleasant sweetness on the palate with herbal notes and dried fruits but also quite a bit of bitterness. Alcohol very well integrated.

That was my first Single Cask. I was looking for an affordable, unsweetened Guyana rum. I found this one and was overwhelmed. Couldn't drink it at first. An intense, room-filling, dark nose - that already hints at the brutal palate. On the finish, after a short bitterness, it becomes surprisingly soft and leaves a fruit that you could only barely guess on the nose. That was too much for me at first and is still not for every day. Overall reminds me of a herbal bitter or Fernet. Certainly a great rum, but it only suits my taste on a few days. Update: In direct comparison with the SBS REV 2006, this one is much more herbal and edgy, but surprisingly closer to the RA 1994. For me, the MDXC batch from 2004 is also a REV.

On the nose wood, spicy notes, licorice, leather, caramel, a bit of varnish, tobacco, pencil shavings and dried plum. On the palate then slightly bitter, with spices, herbs, licorice, caramel, dried fruits and wood. Alcohol is very well integrated. Positively surprised me!

Very intense nose with lots of herbs and licorice. On the palate then dry with a pleasant bitterness and again much licorice. Who likes licorice comes here fully at his expense! The alcohol is very well integrated. Great rum. Personally, however, a little too herbaceous.

Licorice, carpenter's pencil and glowing pine splinter, black powder and campfire (wet pine wood), behind that metal, Balistol and rubber pig. Reminds me of cleaning weapons after a combat shooting in the bivouac (more old-school G3 than G36) while the vegetable onion with soup cube simmers in aluminum foil on the embers ;-). Dry like the announcement from the armory sergeant aka supply sergeant, asking to clean the ramrod again. Elephants in the barrel at two in the morning? Then better this one! Good beginnings, but a bit lacking in length and intensity, not as martial as the description suggests. For under 40 € a great piece from a seemingly long-past era. And by that, I certainly don't mean conscription. Young and dumb, peace brother.

Lots of licorice, lots of spice, a bit of freshness at the end through fruit and polish. Licorice and Maggi in the mouth. Bone dry. Balanced, alcohol well integrated, technically flawless. Classic Demerara.

Musty, licorice, old herbs. Not really to my taste, but it will have its fans. Pleasant caramel sweetness at the end that somewhat reconciles. Pleasant drinking strength, great PLV.
